TG18 Job Review

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
I'm sorry but if we have to be so multi skilled how the hell did drivers get it?

A big bloody con. Their Demo included most of the 85/TSW kit and every spec vehicle you could think of. They even used the pollution control equipment and blending kit which has got f*ck all to do with them in the first place. Plus they also compared themselves to RLC Pet Ops. Unless we can somehow big up our job in the same way we ain,t even in the starting blocks.

Thanks for the clarification Gillo. As most of what you have said about in your post we use on TSW surely that will boost our chances of getting it. I assume the reason they were able to use the pollution kit and fuel blending equipment is cos everyone has to be current with them on TSW which would include the lads in TSW MT and the one's on flight.

To be fair I have always and still do think that maybe it's a bit cheeky for your average joe stacker sat in stores to want the upper pay band but that the lads and lasses of TSW should definately be entitled to it. Still would be nice to get it either way but I'm almost 100% sure that we wont.

Not that I have anything against them however it's not like they could walk into a sqn stores and know what the hell to do in there however I as a supplier hold most driving licences and could walk into their jobs and crack on quite easily.

You said 'crack' (snigger)!

I don't think that it should just be TSW who are entitled to the higher pay band. Yes they do a great job of showing the rest of the forces what we can do, but they just handle fuels all day.
Now before you get at me, I know they deploy at lot and go to some bad places but thats what LSA is for. How many ex wing lads 'n' lasses do you know who come back to units and pretty know naff all about supply.

Are trade is so dynamic and we currentley have adapt the way we work, sometimes to a point of everyday.
So yes one guy might be sat in sqn stores all day, but think of all the things you still have to do.
Demands routine, States, OOA demands, morning stats, routine stock receipts. stk taking, talking to the rest of supply R&D, Log Ops, Eng Ops etc etc.

Alot of people sometimes forget how much we do have to do. There is always something to do- ALWAYS

Have to ask....WTF are you on about???

D

Don't panic don't panic

Don't worry about me, I woffle far to much.
But what I mean is there is so much changing in Stacker land that sometimes it's hard to keep up.
JSP's from AP's, amendments to the way we do things i.e DG etc etc.

I've been sweeping pidgen crap up all day, oh how I love AOC days

Mate, do you honestly think that we are the only trade that has to cope with constant change? This is no reason to even be considered for an upgrade in pay-scale.

D

No you are 100% right, it's just that because the trade is so diverse.
Techies, are and rightly higher pay band because of reponsability, but they tend to stay in one area and if they move have to do alot of courses for the new A/C type etc "FAMS"
Where as you know we can move quickly from Scaf to Esg, and then it's just a quick brief on what the local procedures are.

I'm not trying to say we should get it because of this, and I should be the last person on the interview list as I find it hard sometimes to get the right view across.

Sadly that's the truth chap, next thing Dantura will want is to be appreciated.

IMHO, heres how it should work.

2 pay scales,

Technical (A/C Tech, MT Fit, GEF, Cis Eng etc)
Non Technical (Supply, Clerk, Chef etc)

No rank, regardless of pay scale to get more than the rank above (eg Cpl A/C Tech should not be paid more than a Sgt Clerk)

Incremental according to time served.

Specialist pay for jobs outside of your core tasks. (Difficult to work out whats what, but not impossible)

LSA as per now.

However!

At the rank of FS and WO ALL trades to be paid the same scales. There is very little difference between what a FS Eng & FS Stacker does on a daily basis.

(stand by for Engineering rants, they'll find this thread, you mark my words!)

Has anyone heard anything on the grape vine if we have got it? And if so what ranks

Supply, as we know it, is doomed IMHO and the chance of a 'High' pay band award cannot be justified.

I'm in my nineteenth year now (get some time in) I hear you cry!! but TG18A is a diluted image from what it was 5 - 8 years ago.

What does Supply Chain mean to Suppliers these days?? E2E, KPI's, Continuous Improvement Plans - All business speak from a non-profit making organisation.

I have had some fantastic positions whereby initiative and resourcefulness got you through the day. Making decisions that could impact on your existing setup, workforce and future output were the core dynamics of daily supply life.

Has the rank in the trade became devalued? Are the Sgt's doing the FS jobs, Cpl's doing the Sgt's jobs, the SAC's doing the Cpl's?

I've been employed on a major MOB, a NATO post and now (thumping chest heavily) TSW in the last 8 years and the diversity is incredible; but when does doing a variety of core duties become a reason for a pay increase? The majority of supply personnel are busy!!

I'd love nothing more than a pay increase and feel my trade has been largely ignored for years. I am passionate about my trade but still feel we will be consumed into some Joint Logistic Wing before very long.

Sorry for the rant but I could go on and on about this.

Is there any real future left for TG18?

Stax, you have just managed to reinvent the wheel. What you suggest is virtually where we were in the 1970s
