On Det at leuchars in Feb 98 while based at Bruggen.

Started the thursday night in De Stihls, Dundee and then the rest of the night shagging some tart back at the hotel.

0 hours sleep

Got told at midday that the squadron was on notice to move somewhere sandy. Got told at 1600 to get back to Bruggen as we were flying out next day on ops. By the time we had the wagons packed we set off at 1830 to drive to the Bruggen non stop via the tunnel. Arrived at Bruggen 0930 saturday to start processing by the admin types. As we were all unshaven and in civvies the SWO took it upon himself to start bollocking us. He was stopped mid flow by the FS and the error pointed out. Meanwhile we are holding one sooty two striper back before he repositioned the SWO's nose.

This was the same Op (not just a det - a fecking OP) that a guy was excused because his dog was sick!!

Fortunately, I didnt have a license at the time so I got to sleep on the Friday night (apparently my snoring REALLY ****ed off the driver). So this is listed for the other guys that did the driving - Big up!!

Reading some of the replies my little journey from up north seems pale in comparision. Worked 3 days then 3 nights (Old ISK NLS shift pattern) after my last 12 hour night shift got sraight in the car with the other half and 1 rug rat. Drove 640 miles in 14 hours to Hampshire, tried my best but rug rat needs feeding (4months old) and she needs the toilet at every bl00dy service staion we pass.... What a night mare....

The next trip down south was thanks to Mr.Stelios and his little orange taxi's.... much better.

When Brawdy closed I got posted to Colt. Set out early hours arrived in Norwich let removals guys in then turned around set of back to Welsh Wales.

Round trip of 750 ish miles

Manston to Kinloss, Monday 11 September 2006.
Kinloss to Manston, Friday 15 September 2006.

What a cr@ppy week that was!

Drove from flat in Malta to ferry, got off ferry in southern Italy and drove from there to Calais and from Dover to Lincoln.

Next longest was in a 4 tonner from the middle of the desrt back to Al Jubayl, approximately 15 hours.

Smaller journeys where Kinloss to Scampton Friday evening, and return Sunday evening.

Our Bruggen to Venice was a bit slower (17 hours), but we did set off at 02:00 after a night shift having spent all day fannying about organising. Two drivers and we struggled the last 100 miles!

Long Drives

Long Drives

Halifax to Ottawa (1450 kms) - a solo drive, through 4 provinces, 4 fuel stops, 3 seasons, 2 food breaks...

Riems to Cannes (950 Kms, via the Route Napoleon) - another solo drive, with many coffee, food, and fuel breaks - during this trip I discovered what happens when you have a triple espresso at the motorway services, have a can of Red Bull about 20 mins later when starting to feel a bit drowsy, then think that there's no effect, so 10 minutes later have another can of Red Bull..... Lets just say that I saw a lot of sparkly lights everywhere (during daytime) and talked non-stop for about 2 hours (to myself). Fortunately, there wasn't too much traffic around, as I found it difficult to concentrate on keeping a relatively constant speed - at least my lane discipline remained intact... :PDT_Xtremez_42:

About 18ft, gravelled with rose bushes either side. don't worry I'm leaving.

Though before I go, Did SHAPE to Cornwall and back in a day to go to me Grandma's funeral.

TBJ nagged me when I got back for being so stupid, fecking old woman.

about 2 years ago, 3 days after tying the knot to mr NB we did kinloss to marham to northolt to lyneham in a transit van! we picked up our quarter at 0930, was asleep on the floor by 1000 and didn't wake up till midnight!!!!!!!

Two weeks ago, drive from Kinloss to St Ives, Cornwall. Plan, drive 10 hours, stay overnight on M5 and drive 3.5 hrs the day after ready to pitch tent at about 1200.

What happened. Left Kinloss about 0800, heavy rain on the M6 with warnings that the M50 was closed due to flooding. Was caught on the M5 when it was closed due to flooding. Spent the night with 2 children on the M5, 12 year old throwing his guts up, initially in the car. By the time the motorway was opened, the room, which we still had to pay for, was no longer available. Pushed on and arrived at the camp site at 1400, a full 30 hours after leaving Kinloss. Hanging out of our arses tired, now we had to erect the tent before the heavens opened later that afternoon.

Not so great start to a great holiday.

In 1996

About six inches?

I always love the way the Rockies seem to be kinda hovering in the distance for ages then, suddenly, you're are in them...

Maybe it's just the way I drive.

Bishops Court to Bishops Stortford in a 1.3 Litre Escort in 1990. 501 miles, not including the ferry from Larne to Stranraer. Started out at 08:30 after being up all night on nights due to a fault on the kit I was working on, arrived at 22:55, the last 2 two hours of the trip broken up by coffee stops at every service station to kept awake.

I remember a young A/Cpl plod at St Mawgan in the early 90's claiming for a round trip to Kinloss, 13 hours each way, all in one day! Not the brightest of sparks, when he was investigated for an illegal claim he said he'd just fancied the trip or some other crap excuse. Not a copper for much longer after that.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I once took my parents from Laarbruch to Albert in France to find my Mum's Uncle's war grave. Unfortunately I didn't take the right map, left Germany, went through Holland, Belgium and ended up in Luxembourg. Turned around and went back to Laarbruch. 8 hours of driving, couldn't even find France!!! Totally pi**ed off parents!:raf:

Driving ? Bloomin eck ! when Bosnia started up (1994ish) it was Stafford to Gioia-del-Colle and back at least once a month - 8 of us in a Ford Transit (4,000 mile round trip). Then when things got 'better' it was Stafford to Sarajevo etc, etc, (Across at Ancona-Split) then again when Kosovo kicked off it was out to Pristina and back, through Greece and Macedonia, (eventually, after we got caught and told off for going through Albania once - Bandit Country)
