Mexico V Argentina...

Whoops, a second set of officials having their Graham Poll moments today. This lot won't be taking charge of any more games just like this afternoons bunch.

Argentine 0 - 4 Germany :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Fcuk me, you can't argue with that. Schweinsteiger and Klose aside, they have no supposed 'superstars', they just play the game as a team.
And win.
I hate them! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

I can barely bring myself to say it; but Ze Germans played fantastically.

Rooney and co: this is how you play football at this level.

A very strong and impressive performance from the Germans this afternoon.

If I remember a lot of pundits were even putting the German team down saying they were a young and possibly inexperienced squad. Their football has spoken and indicated otherwise with some very organised performances. Fair play to them!

So what are fellow goaters predictions for the teams to make it to the final now then?

I reckon it wil be Netherlands vs Germany.

Fair shout IMO.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

The Argies were my favourites to win the WC but the Germans won comfortably with a very very good performance. Makes me feel a little better about our 4-1 debacle when Messi, Tevez and Co couldn't even manage one. One the plus side Robert Green is still our joint top scorer.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I agree - the Germans were mightily impressive and it really highlighted Maradona's lack of tactical nous that he couldn't change his team to react to what the Germans were doing.

I got 12/1 on them to win the Cup as I'd seen a lot of the players strut their stuff for FCB when i lived in Munchen - mon the krauts!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

i think one of the commentators said that germany have been semi-finals or better in 11 of the 15 world cups!

sneaky bleeders aren't they? me think too many teams strut around on past performances, as opposed to a 'constant' level!

i too hope it'll be a holland v germany final ... but only cause i have the former in the sweepstake at work and that game will get me a few quid!

Ned Vs Ger

Yep bound to be a cracker, by all accounts there's no love lost, one world cup show said it was the biggest rivalry in european football, made eng sco look like a tea party:PDT_Xtremez_42:

I am not so sure. Argentina were well and truly roasted in the same way that England were. the Germans targetted the playmakers and starved them to death (ummm, not literally of course - that would mean a game of some 45 days duration).

Pararguay employed the same tactics against Spain (who we all expect to excel) and for 50 minutes they succeeded. Then Spain found the way through and ripped them a new one, even if the score didnt recognise that.

Spain are not Argentina. they are experienced, they learn quick and are cereberal as a team (which England, by dint of being probably the intellectually dumbest team in Europe, will never be). Best of all, they were not handicapped by having a fat, egotistical, junky volleyball player for a manager.

Germany will not have such an easy ride, and if the legs hold out, its Spain for me 2.1

More like he didn't have the players equipped to carry out his orders. He (Maradona) set his stall out to win games by outscoring his opponents, and if your team is misfiring then you're stuffed. He seemed to over-egg the attacking aspects of his squad, judging by the amount of attacking options at his disposal. He even played Jon?s Guti?rrez at right Full Back during the Group Stages. What was missing was BALANCE.

How El Diego must rue the decision not to take Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso - both Champions League winners with Inter, and mainstays under Jose Mourinho.

Well, all in all, I think that the final was pathetic. There was more creative diving than in the Olympics and the referee deserves to be hung drawn and quartered. Did the ref have a grudge against the cloggies I ask? Seemed that way to me.

Absolutely pathetic. A cr@ppy tournament topped off by a shoite final.

It's time for FIFA, UEFA, the FA et al to have a good think about trying to put the sport back into football.

What game were you watching?? I think the Dutch were lucky to only have one man sent off!! I don't think you can blame the ref ..The Dutch had their chances but in the end the end the better team won

The game I was watching was scrappy, passionless, disjointed and refereed by someone who had lost control of the game.

But, that's just my opinion. Other people will have theirs.

He didn't lose control of the game, he refereed what he saw. I will say however, that the Spaniards were very lucky and that bloke was sent off for an offence that playback showed didn't warrant a booking; therefore not a sending off.

The European players are whinging, diving con artists to be honest and the game of football no justice whatsover.

Agreed and their actions at the end of the match was shocking 10 mins on and still goblin at the ref. Hardly a dignified way to come second. I didn't watch the full game but they were saying that both teams were lucky not to have lost more.
