Times Report - Cut to the Bone?

They reckon Wittering will close once the Harrier is retired - can't see that myself seeing as most of the RAF logistics machine has now moved there.

Welcome to the 2025 Royal Air Regiment of the British Army folks.

Not surprising really. How many thousands to go?

Probably high pay band stackers, shineys and door slammers. !!

There's a couple of questions arising:

They cutting Cranwell in half ?

Does this new plan reveal that we ain't gonna help NATO no more (unlesss it's in our own back yard).
From that I wonder what we are going to yield to Uncle Sam so that they carry whatever world burden for us ?

Thought:

If you listen very, very carefully, you can almost hear the spinning in the graves of our forebears.

Not forgetting the fact the RAF do not own Wittering, The Lord Burleigh, who owns that big mansion on the way to Stamford.
Both Wittering and Colly western were lent to the Air Ministry around WW1. This was done on the proviso that once they were done with them they would be returned to there previous use, FARM LAND.

So I can't see the MOD paying for that.

This is the reason why closure got **** canned a few years ago when they mooted it! :PDT_Xtremez_14:

It's the same if they want to close Scampton. They have to pay to put the A15 back where they found it.

One plan under consideration would see all RAF fast jet training moving to RAF Valley in Anglesey, leading to the possible closure of RAF Linton-on-Ouse and RAF Leeming, both in North Yorkshire.

I can't see Leeming closing, not with the A6 hub now moved and 90SU's new hanger.

Everyone knows that when money is spent on local RAF infrastructure, closure is inevitable.
Yup, was at Chivenor when they spent 10 million quid on new Hyd Bay and Line buildings in '93, 2 years later it was closed down, we knew it was gonna be closed even as they were putting the buildings up. :PDT_Xtremez_21:

Interesting article... almost worth printing it off and seeing how things pan out over the next 10 years :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Some of the comments at the end are just so... :PDT_Xtremez_35: look at this chod:-

This will therefore mean that under the terms of the Geneva Convention, because the Royal Air FORCE is less than 50,000 men, it will now be renamed the Royal Air MILITIA, i.e. RAM and not RAF.

Thankyou Gordon Brown for turning the RAF into a militia.

How long has the RAF been under 50k? And it's still a Force!! I shall have to write off to my MP about that! Feckin' eejit!

Mate I read about the first 3 comments and stopped before I felt the need to scream just to release my anger at the stupidness of what some people commented on there and actually sounded like they meant it!

If they are going to mothball 4 of our 7 E3's they may as well pt all of them to bed as you can't do anything with just 3 apart from airshows and the odd exercise...

Hang on...A brilliant policy!

Well, in my opinion, these cuts could make enough money to pay for the Haddon-Cave Review Team, their accommodation when touring around Stations and their recopmmended improvements. All of which will need new commissioned posts to run them. These Post holders will have to be trained by commisioned Post trainers in new specially built and fully integrated and eco-friendly comissioned Post Training base set on a pretty (and expensive) beach-side area near a Golf Course.

It will also pay for MOD to get some (RAF ret'd) Consultants in to see what improvements can be made to reduce the remaining force to an air-wing of the UK Self-Defence Force.

And Nu-Labours Job will be done!

Cynical, but I see the reasoning!!

Jeez thats some pre-emptive cuts, 1/4 of the manpower! The airships must be thinking that the unthinkable must be on the cards.

Thats fcuking depressing :PDT_Xtremez_38:
