Didn't the Ruskies decide to start building up their forces again a couple of years ago?

I know we're not enemies anymore, (apart from spying), but I don't think anyone who wants to have a pop will give us enough notice to build up our numbers in time.

A bad idea all round.

Thats all they did in the last few years anyway, not like in my day!
 
They say all these things but they can't happen. When they announced Colt was shutting they said another 4 would go with it and I don't reckon it's happened yet. They can aspire to close camps and cut numbers but they already know they also have to cut commitments as well and they just can't bring themselves to do it.

Strangely enough, it did.
I reckon a .303 was better for doing Drill with, but to see uniforms I started out with (those ankle things had just gone out, I think), to remember the 'fun' in a decent parade (where we didn't have to think much, just listen), but whilst watching someone else do it was a nice experience.

I enjoyed most of my time; I'd put my name down to help if needed,

Pass me the UHF Test Set someone please.
And the tissues.

Even at late 80's prices it cost around 3.2m to build and was shut down less than 2 years after the grand opening. They can close, change the use of, civlianise anywhere they like without actually having to provide us prolls with an explanation. Abingdon, Finningley,Watta shambles, Chivenor, Colt, the list is pretty long of places closed in recent years without going back to far. So what if money has been spent and facilities improved at a unit that has never stopped things being closed in the past.
 
So, another 10k people to go.

I presume what they will do is contractorise those 10k jobs, because on paper it is cheaper in the next financial year.

In reality of course turning blue suits posts into civvy posts generally ends up costing more, while at the same time providing much less capability.

The only other way of doing it is to fly less. Much less.
 
So, which trades to cut? No more Tornado's or Harriers, therefore no more technicians required for those aircraft types. Typhoon's going to have the numbers drastically cut so that's more and I'm guessing that if they close 5 'large' Stations then perhaps a large part of the RAF Regiment may go. One thing's for sure, the high ranking Officer Corps will remain just as top heavy as before because we need all those Wg Cdr's, Gp Capt's and Air Commodores flying those desks at MOD Whitehall.
 
If the cuts are made, i.e. do more with less, then someone HAS to make a realistic decision on what can and what can't be done and what effect this will have on the various commitments around the world.

Company I work for has just been "re-organised" i.e. less people doing more work BUT this time our senior bosses have given the decision makers a list of what will now NOT be done due to lack of resources and basically asked them how they can get a workforce to carry out more work within their contracted hours without overtime.

Threat of the sack etc, they have tried that one, did not work, people left anyway, unions rattled a few sabres etc all went back to "status quo"

One small matter that crept into a paper the other day and has raised a few concerns amongst civilian airlines is Russian aircraft coming over to have "peek" and being intercepted by the QRA aircraft as the Russians don't tell any one they are coming.

Hmmm, just like the good old Cold War days of when we had Phantoms and Lightnings on Q.

Agree with the reduction in numbers to reduce costs etc but there does come a tipping point, when you have cut the work force to the bone and no amount of "beatings / threats" etc will make any differance.

A major screw up occurs, a review body is convened and the recomendation is that more resources / personnel are needed to stop this happening again :PDT_Xtremez_42:

A case of re-inventing the wheel AGAIN

Because they learned from mistakes from the last few batch of cuts, stopping recruitment will come back and bite you years later.
