Posted on another thread about this booklet but thought I'd give the booklet it's own thread, a trip down memory lane for those of us who experienced the wonders of that remote Lincolnshire Training Base....

Not quite sure why they've got pictures of the Newcomers Club as my memory is not being allowed in the place for at least the first week...

When did you join up Ranger? They were still using 95% of those images in the booklet I had when I joined up in 1991.

Yeah, thanks for that. I might not have remembered the cover but the rest seems to ring a fecking big bell.

I was at Swinditz in 1987, I can remember some of those pics, but not all!:PDT_Xtremez_35:

I still have that booklet as well. Not seen in ages as it's in the loft somewhere. Brought back some memories though. Straight back to '91 I went! :PDT_Xtremez_31:

Women at Swinderby, my god, what next? Not in my day (78) etc etc Blokes cooped up with a sock and a cup of bromide mutter mutter.......:raf:

Indeed, and radio Swinderby dedicating Ivor Bigguns wakners song to some poor miscreant every night. Did they stop playing friggin in the riggin when the 'ladies' arrived? What's the deal with those girlie V necked jumpers they're all wearing?

Ooops!, sorry, just entered a 1980 timeslip there, along with Lee-Enfields bodged up to look like an SLR! and wearing blue denims with a 37 pattern webbing belt and light haversack all done up in nice black kiwi!

4 flight indelibly seared upon my memory...Sgt L***y....the screaming skull, Cpl S****s....professional nasty little man.........Some poor Rock Ape karked it while I was there I remember....something to do with a HUGE case of Swinderby cough becoming Pneumonia

Ahhh the memories.............I STILL wake up screaming today!

"YOU'RE ONLY JUST BEGINNERS!!!!"...LMFAO!!

PS if somebody would have presented a kit inspection like that in the picture in my day, it would have gone out of the fukcing window at about 1000mph and the rest of the room would have been trashed too......none of this namby-pamby "Lets talk about your underperformance".........:raf:

There was a club there?

Bugger!

All I seemed to do was scrub boot polish into the black bits between the tiles in the washrooms night after night, only to have some cnut tell me it was minging the next morning and repeat process until pass out.

Mind you, my parents tell me it was a lightning fly-past for me. Maybe that's why I've spent virtually all my career on FJ Sqns!

5 Flt for me, Early 81, - 4 & 6 being our dearest rivals I remember those chaps. They were generally accepted as being mild in comparison to the genuinely twisted ex TAG Cpl B***ell we were shafted with. Field telephones were his favourite torture weapon. Batsard smacked me in the throat when I was deemed out of dress on his parade.
Sgt N**** tried to instill a sense of pride in us having it 'tougher than the rest' but to be honest I never met anyone who was genuinely impressed at my shiny aluminium toothpaste tube and duraglit tins bereft of advertising. "we like pain"? bollox we did.
