Welcome To Swinderby

Got to Swinders 28th Mar 1989... Me and 3 others chucked on a plane from Aldergrove and told to make our way to Newark.... I thought that was near New York USA!! Anyway I now have a new built house on the accomadation site right where the rodneys mess was.. Everytime i go to the pub i walk past where Gibson blk was bringing back the memories..

memories

Aaarrgghh the memories of swinditz left the place in June 79 after training, abused by the rocks, stabbed by the medics and drilled in the sun by some sadistic jock Cpl whose name escapes me, fly past by a lone Canberra, newcomers club strictly over 18's. As a 23 year old I made quite a few bob from loaning the card showing my age to others to go boozing when I had a night in, of which there were plenty.
Sgt Dave L***y that guys name will live with me for a very long time. Rumour amongst us was that he had just been posted in from MCTC and we where his first course (7 Flt) certainly treated us as we were convicted criminals. The other rumour was he had been busted from FS for some never discovered (By us anyway) reason. Girlies went to Hereford back then,

nostalgia taking over must stop, must st

March 80, no lumpy fronts but the Iranian Embassy siege kept the excitment going. And what did I find the other day and now use as my sweat rag down the Gym, yes that red rag round yer neck, and it sill runs in the wash. Oh and I forgot. The long walk to Norton Disney in No 1's for a decent pint, yer can stick the half way house up yer pipe, too many blue jobs in there for me.....

Now you'll really feel good when I tell you I was born in April 74, ha ha!!!

Why is it always the Jocks who were sadists? My Cpl, Mes#on I think his name was, was a small man with a large voice, can still hear him now "'eft 'eft 'eft 'ight 'eft", must have had small man's syndrome. My Sgt was a scouser, now that man was evil, funnily enough I can't remember his name. The Officer was reputed to have been involved in a secrets for sex scandal in Cyprus a year or so before, his voice on parade was really embarrassing, very high and effeminate. Fly past was 3 Tonkas, 2 still in Gulf warpaint.

I remember Cpl Mes***. I also remember on one of our paractice parades you could hear "tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic screeeeeeeeechhhhhhhh" as he ran up beside and then slid backwards on his segs screaming at someone who had messed up somewhat. Legend... pure legend

Jock was also one of my DIs and a top bloke. But then next to his oppo on my flt he could have been a complete b@stard and I would still have liked him. Cpl M***r: 6'4" of headcase, he was like a larger-than-life Lord Kitchener with terminal toothache. He once picked up my bed with all my kit laid out, and launched it to the other end of the room - at the time I was just glad he took it out on my bed instead of me.

He ended his career beasting campers at Butlins Colchester where I imagine he thought he had died and gone to heaven.

One of our Rock Instructors was a Cpl Too#y and he was a complete cnut, the ladies liked him though, seem to remember certain rumours that he was a part time stripper.

Was at Swinditz Nov79 and passed out 2nd Jan 80, remember my family travelling up from south west wales on new years day and booking into a grotty pub/B&B in newark. I sneaked out of last night bull nite to go see them and got ****ed think I was only one on parade next day with hangover...........:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Passed out of swinditz in May 91, the Sparrows did the first flyby from behind the parents, and the Chipmunks went across the top of us from left to right.

Oh the memories, the pain the torture. Loved it.

Passing out video? When I was at Swinditz there was no such thing as your 'video'. No, there just was a bloke hanging from the main gates with chalk and a slate, drawing frantically.

Some good responses there folks, always good to take a trip down memory lane so here we go with the rest of the book...

Last page and it's the Pass Out parade, all those hours practising being put into practice, hoping for a decent fly past (2 x Bucs for me) and hoping to don't pass-out whilst being watched by loved ones
