Can't remember what Flt but square bashed at Swinderby in Feb 1972, to Trade qualify at North Luffenham before joining Digby. Still there, on my 8th tour and then retire in 14 months 3 weeks. The only WOP SPEC left in the RAF.

Wop Spec

Wop Spec

Wireless Operator Special (Morse Monkey), then went through various trade name changes inc. ROT (Radio Operator Telegraphist), CSA (Communications Systems Analyst) Int An (C) Intelliegence Analyst (Communications) and now just Int An (after merger with other Int An trades). Alas, as stated previously, I am the only WOP SPEC left in the RAF.:raf:

Swinderby

3 FLT Oct 86,the DI's were Sgt Fos and Cpl M T****r in case he is still in,IIRC he had the top of his Rt thumb missing. The reviewing officer was from Odiham so we had a Chinook fly past. The Offrs were F/O M*****y,F/L M*********h and the wonderfully named Sqn/Ldr Spearpoint. Then on to Halton, that is a different story altogether.:)

Oh yeah nearly forgot the Cravats were Blue I think.

Oh and the senior man was a big welsh fcuker who was going on to be a snowdrop.

Cosford, Fulton Block, 71-73 but real spiritual home has to be one of the Germany bases probably Wilders (16 years in germany in total - see what you younguns are missin.

I arrived at Swinderby on a train from Glasgow with 5 other Jocks on Hogmanay 1975. What a day to send a bunch of Jocks down south. We were all bladdered by the time we arrived there and we ended up at a New Year party in the NAAFI. The next morning (New Years Day) the tannoy went off...... Reveille Reveille! the time is 06:15. WTF!!!! Where am I? Where is my mum????????? It was all downhill from there.

Spiritual home is RAF Abingdon. First posting, happy days, met my wife there (yeah I know that's a contradiction).

Swinderby Dec 79, met my Sgt DI years later when I did a short tour of Colchester (not guilty govner it was all his fault) sh@t myself when that voice announced Ahh JT S.......r wondering when you would eventually turn up here....:0

Swinderby for me to. Got there Dec 90 for 1 week then given some pocket money and sent home to mummy for 3 weeks xmas grant. Got back to swinderby to see the gulf war kick off and constant drones of "She's My Cherry Pie" by Warrant in the Newcombers Club.
I think i was 9 Flt (mixed) I also vaguely remember the Farm "Altogether Now" as our anthem. Passed out on Valentines day and then off to Halton for Rigger Mech course. Oh the memories.

I went through Swinderby in April 71. We had a very tall guy (can't remember his name) on our course who was going WOp Spec. He was paranoid about it though because he'd heard that around of a third of all course participants doing languages had nervous breakdowns. You've managed to hold it all together then? Just wondering, because you say you're going to live with the French?
:0

Well 5 of my family ( if you include a sis in law ) have all served at Halton at one time or another ..including one who was in PMRAFH when he died!
