It has gone off topic and I may well be one of the instgators of that but the OP has had a lot of good gen with regards to her situation. The debates that follow will also help her rest assured she and her family are not alone in thier feelings.

Good to see Olliepop's point of veiw aswell. It makes a refreshing change to see the true waaf's point of view, not the pampered bop princess' idea of fairness.

New Zealand Army

To obtain a G1 pass, NZ Army personnel are required to pass the following tests:
There are graduating scales working progressively downwards depending upon your age to gain a lesser G2 pass
Sorry to be pedantic but why quote the NZ Army fitness test? Its not comparable to an air force one because they do a totally different type of job- no one here has compared the British army to the RAF....

the Air Force uses an OPERATIONAL FITNESS TEST (OFT) to assess physical fitness. A pass in this test must be obtained for you to be successful on Recruit and Officer training. The OFT comprises of the following two elements: a. A timed 5 km march, carrying an evenly distributed weight of 20 Kg, which is representative of a helmet, flak jacket, Steyr, 120 rounds of ammunition, webbing, 1.5L water, and a first aid kit. This tests cardio respiratory fitness, and is an indicator of general locomotion, core (abdominal) stability, and the ability to carry operational equipment. b. Continuous push-ups. While being easy to administer, push-ups provide a reliable indication of the upper body and abdominal muscular endurance. Training for push-ups also assists in maintaining the bone mineral density and is therefore of additional benefit to older personnel.

The times and the number of pushups are different for men and women- but not by alot. i think for an F1 pass marching 5km with 20kg men have to do it in 40 min and women in 42.

It would be interesting to learn of the rational behind that decision (I don't expect that you will know this RAFBird; but, someone on here might). I have browsed through a significant number of JS, Army, and RAF policy documents on the intranet and can find no references to exclude women from parachute posts in either Combat Support or Combat Service Support roles.
The recent MOD review concluded that women should continue to be excluded:
It acknowledge that women had served in Combat Support and Combat Service Support roles including being attached to ground combat units:
The report is clear that the exclusion only applies to 'cap-badged' posts (in our case RAF Regt Gunner and Officer) not to any attachees. I can find no evidence of a Joint of Single-Service policy to exclude women from either 16 AA Bde or 3 Cdo Bde.

Yeah I always wondered why we weren't allowed to do it but at the time was a young SAC and when I asked why not was just told because that's just how life is and to be fair all I was really interested in was going away on det, earning lots of extra money and boozing alot. They guys that did the course and any jobs related to it loved it and of course loved the extra pay which IIRC was about £150 - £200 a month. They did some gucci things as well... but course cant tell you otherwise I'd have to kill you! ;) :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Before you attempt to come back with you must be a fat waaf.... I am not but, I do not have to talk about my figure/looks/boyfriend to boost my ego!!

Why is it so, difficult to understand that the RAF fitness test is NOT equal?? The same as us not being able to serve in RAF Regt.... Because IMO it is equal... for a man and woman of the same age they have to reach level that is equal for their genetic build. How is that so difficult for you to understand?

We get paid the same, we do the same jobs (apart from Regt), we get assessed the same so, why can't we be asked to do the same fitness wise?? When I went through basic training. We were all running the same distances cross country, lifting the same weight on the stretcher runs, yomping the same distance as the lads nobody complained then or played the 'but I am a girl card' so whats the difference now?? PSA

You say you are super fit etc etc so, what is the problem?? I have never said there is a problem. If I went to work next week and they raised the standards I would ensure that I passed the required standard just as I have in the past when they have raised the standard. I don't care what they set it to as long as I can pass it. I'm not some naturally super fit superwoman but we all get free gym membership and an hour every lunch to to the the gym (and I have a wee gym at home) so I work at it. What narcs me is that blokes & you come on here going on about fat WRAFs (as if we all are) that we don't have to go as far in the RAFFT. As if we chose the levels? A team of people who get paid alot more money than I do chose them. Why should I lose face or feel bad about that?

fishing for a bite

I cant be arsed to answer the rest of it... erm something about my body and my fella etc?? Maybe I'm just proud of what I have got out of life....

RAFbird.

If you actually read what is written, instead of getting on your high horse you will see that I didn't call ALL wrafs fat... I said it is an excuse for unfit fat wrafs... Not every wraf!

I understand your point of view... That you think that the fitness test is fair but, I simply don't think it is... As somebody quoted earlier, equality works both ways...

And to want/expect equality. You have to admit when equality isn't happening.

If the shoe were on the other foot and, say you were a chappy in the top 10 of the promotion board. They were only promoting 9.

It comes down to you and a wraf everything is identical and matched on your assesments. The only difference is, she passed her level 6 on the fitness test but you failed your level 9 (even though you passed her level6). So, she gets promoted instead. Would you think that things were so equal then??

I wouldn't!! Hence why I am siding with the lads on this one.

Simples!!

You lassies (are you shinies and stackers) are an embarrasment to the the rest of us that take the test and equality seriously.!!
assuming that I dont take the test seriously. I dont know anyone who rocks up in the gym not taking it seriously from the superfit to the ones that struggle.

And to want/expect equality. You have to admit when equality isn't happening. But I don't shout about equality as I have said on many of the posts here. If they released a new pay scale tomorrow depending on how you scored on the RAFFT then I would do my best and take home what I have earned in the same way that I never moan about not being able to earn extra as I am not allowed to be a paramong.

I dont know why you are even bothering to think about the promotion board with this one. You've been in long enough now to know it's all about secondary duties and winning the lottery. We will agree to disagree.

At the end of the day none of us are equal. Male/female some of us are built for speed, some for strength, some have a higher pain threshold. To have a test that simply groups us all together isn't great but tbh I don't know what the answer would be

Jeezuz,

You also talked about your t!ts, your super duper boyfriend, how great you are etc etc.... You don't see me quoting every little detail just to try to have the last word and, get one up on you.fishing for a bite

The truth is I don't give a toss what you think as, you are one of those think you know it all little girls who would argue black was white.

This is a forum about admin discharges, fitness tests, equality... Not a playground girly cat fight..... You are simply boring me with your up your arse attitude so, stfu

If standing by what I believe in makes me a bad person then so be it, better that than be a sheep to you. 30 odd posts on this forum and you've so far managed to gruntle at least 4 people that I could count. Bet your a hoot at work.

Now as this thread is soo far off track and I certainly dont need lessons about this forum from you... I shall close it now.
