argh about to get f&*ked over at work with ooa!!!!

bit of a rant here!!!!!!!!!!

to be honest im well ****ed off with it.

had an assignment order come through to go to the falklands on x date and had a list of course to do for it which is fair enough.

about 5 weeks ago i rang up to book onto one of the courses and got told to hang fire as XYZ sqn were taking over the commitment and i wouldnt need to do all the courses... phone back in a week to confirm.

rang back next week to confirm .... nothing deffinat phone backnext week.....

this went on for 4 weeks , got confirmed on the tuesday last wk, yep XYZ sqn taking ovr and you dont need courses....

roll on thursday that week and its all changed ive got to do all the courses.

said courses come through on jpa and all overlap(as so little time to do them.)

phone up today to sort it out and they have come back with the idea of delaying me for 8 days so i can finish a course.

so i will be on a course for a week , have a week back at work then go back on another course for 3 weeks which finishes on the friday, have the saturday at home with my family and then fly to FI on sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!


so i get no time at work to sort **** out as away on a course.

then they expect me to be happy with just one day with my family before i go away for 4 months!!!!!!!!!:PDT_Xtremez_09:

unfortunatly you will just have to get on with it i'm afraid, same thing happened to me before i went to basrah last year.
It's a bitch of a situation to be in but at least the det is a fairly decent one (compared to afghanistan).
 
The way it's looking your best bet is to take the week you have at home as leave (if work will let you, hopefully they have some compassion) then at least you get some time with the family before joys of MPA. Have a word with your line manager about complaining to the drafters/trade desk about the constantly changing need for courses for your det (that and the dates/location) and it's not only fecking you and your family round but your work as they now loose you for courses and pre-det leave.
We've been down there for a while so you'd like to think they know whats needed by now.

You are being sent for an OOA to one of the remotest lands on the globe, if you go there unhappy and not in best way you could have left your family then the MOD has a responsability to ensure you go on your duty in the best health you can. If what you say is others fault and delays then you have right to complain and go to your seniors. If they tell you to man the **** up (as the norm) you take that how you want to but if i was you and i left my family under that condition I would be seeing the padre as we speak.

Now while I would tell you to get on with it. I also had the issue with courses. They (PMA) don't seem to know how to manage things.

The old idea of getting stiffed for 4 months has gone.

It seems to be stiffed for 4 months and some courses and some stress interviews and some preps but only in a tuesday afternoon when there is a full moon. Then some more interviews to see if you are chuffed off enough then. there you need to be 12 months in date for this or that then once you find the courses change, then they get cut short and you could have had your medical on the 3rd wednesday of the month with a letter Q in it after all.

We don't seem to do the jobs OOA that we do in the UK anymore so that means a bucket of courses.

For me I ended up doing 15 weeks of courses (cut from the planned 22) before I did my OOA!

All the time not being able to book a family holiday as the course dates kept changing and obviously I got bought forward 4 months cos I always do!
So My wife wasn't happy, I wasn't happy, my work wasn't happy and even PMA wasn't happy cos I couldn't do 2 courses in hte same week and that meant more work for them!!!!!

Agree TMG, you only see the padre if the hand of God can achieve sommat your wobbly can't. In this case you can stamp your feet and maybe someone will get a slight reprimand, but my guess is its a chain of comms failures which have ended up impacting you. It's crap but if the courses must be done, that's the way it is. To do otherwise will just stiff someone else to cover you or stay in theatre longer past their tourex.

im just ****ed off that ive sat on my hands for a month whilst they try and sort their lives out when i could of been doing some of the courses!!

how do they expect me to pack, book flights,zero weapons, spend some quality time with my young children before i go away and dont see them for 4 months.

ive got n probs doing the det but surely there must be someone in my trade that holds the relevant q, already??

So it's better to dik someone who has the relevant q's to go at a months notice away from their families rather than you??? You've had months to spend quality time with yours as you've known for months that you were going.

Indeed.

It always makes me laugh when people cry "I only get to see my family for 1 day of quality time before I go"; as if the last X amount of years have been sh1t time.

Look at the flip side. It's four months out of Kineton, and you are always b1tching about being there.
 
Hey Renton, I feel for you, but we're all in the same boat mate.

I had to do FP, at another unit, finishing on a Friday, to fly out to herrick on the Saturday. Crap, but necessary.

The reason I feel for you is that someone has mis-informed you of stuff you needed/didn't need to do, but you never know, maybe THEY had been told the wrong gen too?!?!

Just make the most of the time you have and try not to go away under a cloud between you and your wife. Bear in mind that she's got 4 months with the kids, by herself, so she doesn't need to be any more stressed either.

Tinters/comms in FI is great, so chill buddy, at least you'll get to 'speak' on a daily basis.

I understand youre annoyed about deploying, but you dont have to book your own flights, or zero a weapon for the Falklands. There is a lot less prep than going to Afghan. How long does it take you to pack? I'm a girl and I can do it in less than a day!! Seriously, we all get shafted from time to time regarding deployments, at least you aint going to the lovely sandy place. It could be worse!
 
In his defence Renton has had his location, dates, Q requirements changed so often he's lucky he knows where he's going, when and what he needs.
I think he's just sick of being fecked about over this det which has been going on for about the last 6 months. There just seems to a severe lack of sense or planning by his trade desk and i don't really blame him for being slightly miffed with it all.

ok lets get the story straight.

this is how it goes ......

last august i phoned my drafter to "volunteer" to do an ooa to afghan(a specific op which i cant name for sec reasons)

drafter said brill will get you sorted straight away.

jpa assignment comes through for khandahar in november last year with x amount of courses to do.

i complete all courses and about a month before im due to go another assignment order pops up for Fi in march with another load of courses to do!

start courses in november last year(deods)and then try and sort out courses for this year.

cue another assignment on jpa and date put back to july this year(still is)

so start trying to book courses for this and then get told what i first said in my first post.

so today ive managd to sort dates for all courses and between now and when i go in july i will have about 4 weeks(maybe 5 at a push) with my family before i go.


im not whinging , far from it in fact i dont mind going and am quite looking forward to going down south.

its the fact my ooa has changed so much and then when trying to sort my courses out i get told to sit on my hands for a bit whilst they cant decide what to do im left with a ****ty situation which is not my fault at all.

never mentioned dicking someone else , what i said was that i find it hard to believe that im the only one out of x amount of sac armourers with the relevant q's which is what ive been told is the reason for all this!!
