Anyone heard any more speculation/information on when it's rumoured to be? It seemed to be the generally held belief that it would be 'after the Scottish elections', but I haven't seen anything that mentions a specific date.

Is it now a straight fight between Lossie and Leuchars, and possibly one other?

Cheers CI, I assumed that would be the last day for an announcement but hadn't seen anything, I googled it with July 19th and got an artilce from EDP(?)

"A spokesman at the MOD has told the EDP the announcement could be made at “any time” between now and July, when parliament rises for its summer recess."

Broadland MP Keith Simpson has said he expects an announcement by the last day of the Commons summer term, July 19, and the only thing that could delay it beyond then was a complication on withdrawing troops from Germany.

We'll wait and see then.

At that place of many minds without a single thought in the South West of England, it seems to be commonly accepted that the only survivor in the Kingdom of Alba will be Lossiemouth.

That would be great for me, I'm being moved onto holding flight at Cott awaiting posting out, so I'd be interested to know what's happening with closures to make my begging and pleading/weeping with the drafters more informed.
 
The Scotsman has been saying that for a while septic. I'm sort of hoping they'll stick the Leuchars Typhoons in Leeming, and I can get myself there.

Be careful what you wish for.
 
Srategically it doesn't make sense to have QRA anywhere but Leuchars. Therefore I predict a move for Leuchars Typhoons to St Mawgan.
 
They will close all the mainland airfields, take Stornoway back off the civvies and base everything there. Makes perfect sense to me. Why would you re-open an airfield people would enjoy a posting to.
 
Not sure if SNP will allow government to shut anymore bases in Scotland (I Hope). What about closing some of the minor, half manned, in the middle of no where bases in England? Give RAF Leeming to the army and let the RAF keep Leuchars. Win win, army get a base in a good location and RAF keep a good located base.

Who says Leuchars is a good location, unless you are a golf nutter like the Bairsto dynasty?
 
Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee all within 90mins drive couldn't get a better located base with regards to practability for weekend shopping and **** ups among other things. As for strategic location, I dont have a scooby. Oh forgot to mention St Andrews for the students aswell, couldnt get better.
