Base Closure Annoucement

Anyone heard any more speculation/information on when it's rumoured to be? It seemed to be the generally held belief that it would be 'after the Scottish elections', but I haven't seen anything that mentions a specific date.

Is it now a straight fight between Lossie and Leuchars, and possibly one other?

I can well appreciate that, but it's the making of the man to reside in a rotten borough amongst the sub-tenants for a few short months.
 
The Scottish Parliament finishes for summer 5 July 11, after opening officially 1 Jul - I reckon 4 Jul for an announcement, as it would not go down very well in the toy parliament to announce a scottish base closure when they're all on holiday

A valid point! Expect the decision sometime after the "wee pretendy parliament" finish for summer. Most people seem to be of the opinion now that they should just make the announcement, not doing Los or leu any favours dragging it out
 
Duty rumour last week was that Leuchars would close, Dundee Airport would move in to allow for expansion plans, Typhoons would move to Lossie and occupy 12's HAS site after they move into 14's old hangar.

Sounds quite logical to me, mind you there was also a rumour that the entire Royal Navy were deploying to Loch Ness with their fleet of 3 rubber boats.

Like all rumours, complete tosh, and driven from people within Lossie trying to hang on to their camp, just as people at Leuchars will be. NO ONE knows yet, not the Stn Cmdrs, not even the AOC. All that is happening, is that lossie are 'making plans' so if the announcment goes their way, they will have a plan ready.

I heard a great rumour today about the whole situation.

Apparently BOTH Lossie and Leuchars are closing. Lossie to become an Army camp, Leuchars to become Dundee airport.

Everything currently at the two camps will be split between Marham (GR4's) and Leeming (Typhoon).

I really don't see why anyone would want to expand into an airport that is one hour south of Aberdeen Airport and one hour north of Edinburgh Airport (both ow wich are commercially connected), and without any in place infrastructure, except for 3 days a year.

Somebody must have a pretty disney business plan to sell.

But isn't there a big f**k off golf course being built not far from Leuchars?

It appears the die is cast, the decision has been made. Its not been announced though.

Could this mean that Marham has lost and they are going to announce it on Sunday when all the locals are at the market selling their cattle/ straw/ sisters?

Looking at the timing, would you announce the closure of a base just after people from that base have just arrived in a sandy place?

Or

Would you announce the closure of a base that has got people returning from the same sandy place?
