Condolences to the families of the fallen, and thoughts to all the troops who knew these brave men
(taken from For The Fallen)
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
it has just been on the news that two lads off 1 Sqn RAF Regt have been killed by a mortar attack in Basrah, and are now at the Regt final Re-Org.
my deepest condolances goes out to the families & friends of the two lads who were killed whilst on Op's serving their country & Regiment, and i hope the rest of the lads on 1 Sqn return home safely soon. Per Ardua
"Three RAF servicemen have been killed in a mortar attack in Basra, southern Iraq, says the Ministry of Defence.
Two of the men were from Suffolk-based 1 Squadron RAF Regiment and the other from 504 Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force, based in Rutland , East Midlands. "
Before 1 Sqn moved to Honiton, they were were based here and they served out in Basrah a few times then.
I remember remarks from the news broadcasters about the outstanding "hearts and minds" work they were doing within the local community out there.
Outstanding work.
Rest In Peace fellas.
So sorry to hear the terrible news this morning. My condolences to all the family, friends and comrades of those killed in Basra.
They shall not grow old,
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.
