My older brother works in the hotel sector and has had his hours cut down to five a day. Plus they have cleared the top floor out of guests. And laid off some agency staff and wont be recruiting any new.
Distinct possibility it could be gearing up to be field hospital. But that is just a rumor.

My guess that if the poor bastards who work in shops on the high street thought recent years had been bad this is going to be the final nail in the coffin for retail.

This takes about 10 minutes to watch but is worth it. Informative and without a sugar coating, it's fact checked, cross referenced and sources linked at the end etc.

Lincoln this morning was like a scene from the film ‘28 Days Later’. I think that I was only one of three customers in Debenhams. The girl serving me looked like she was about to burst into tears. The same story in pretty much every shop. My gym has now shut its doors like all the others and it would seem everyone’s quality of life is about to take a nosedive. Even the little village library I volunteer at is closing down though with the average age of the clientele being over 70 perhaps that’s a wise move!

First time ever that we have sailed through Lincoln as it was like a ghost city with very little traffic and found plenty of parking spaces at the hospital, sensibly they are not allowing anyone into some departments as we had to drop my brother-in-law off at the door and when they finished with him they brought him out to us in the corridor, even stopped off at a Tesco store and found people that appeared to be shopping sensibly once more, although they had run out of toilet paper by 11:00.

Just listening to some people on the radio talking about the issue of panic buying and they have stated that there is no need as there is plenty of stock as producers are increasing output and a lot of the businesses that are now closed are looking at using their supply chains into helping deliver food etc, then to spoil it all some stupid women mentioned the possible need to use rationing, if there is one thing that will get the numpties out emptying shelves it will idiotic comments like that.

All the libraries here have closed wef yesterday evening - which is a bit of a bummer because I was just about at the head of the waiting list for 'The Mirror and The Light' which is 800 pages. iirc, and would have kept me amused for a couple of weeks (although, admittedly, I am wfh & doing 9 - 10 hour days). Of course I think I know how it ends..... :)

Spare a thought this evening for a 67 year old proper KOS Army buddy of mine on his Central America holiday of a life time who flew out on a direct flight from Manchester to Costa Rica. He's now trying to get back from Costa Rica, 11 hours after leaving his hotel he has now sorted a flight to Bogota Columbia, then a connection across the pond to Madrid a six hour delay in Spain, then hopefully he's booked on a BA flight to Heathrow to get back to UK at sometime very late tomorrow or perhaps even the early hours of the day after.

Does your library not do audiobooks.

Just seen an article supposedly about Danish supermarkets and how they are discouraging panic buying / hoarding.
Hand Sanitizer single bottle €5 buy two €1000.

Sounds like a bloody good idea. Having just been to my local Tesco’s with its completely empty shelves this could stop the idiotic behaviour we’re seeing.

I'm already working from home so it was turned 1800 before I was able to pop out for a newspaper. Quick check in the fridge before I go out - some more milk wouldn't hurt as there's only a couple of pints left (for 2 of us). Tesco's - plenty of papers, zero milk (of any variety or size); Aldi - zero milk (of any variety or size); Morrisons - zero milk (of any variety or size); Iceland Warehouse - zero milk (of any variety or size). FFS, milk has a shelf life at home of around 7 - 10 days, so are people bathing in the stuff???
I really wonder how much of the panic bought stuff is just going to end up thrown away because it has gone off before people get around to using it. Wasteful bastards depriving others unnecessarily.
Had similar experience as well. Supermarkets (short drive) often has no essentials - I'm not looking for 200 toilet rolls, an Andrex 4 pack would do! Don't recall when local Morrisons had any hand sanitisers. A month or so ago Wilcos could be relied on for most cleaning/antibac things - not now. Milk I can normally get from our local (walkable) CoOp type place but have to accept that I wont always get blue top.

Personally I’m finding the panic buying to be quite specific, some things just aren’t Available unless you queue, or work at the supermarket, surprised Tesco allow their staff to take things straight out the back room to the till (Toilet roll anyone)

Anyway today’s social distancing task was taking the dyson to bits and giving it a good cleaning, whats your time filler been?
