Cpl-Sgt Board 2012

I think the board is due to sit next week, (At home at the minute so can't confirm).

Fingers crossed and good luck to all.

That's what I heard. If your a B, you'll get told at the end when the board is finished.

So the less than transparent system gets just a little more murky, IMO pre boarding is what causes most of the issues with promotion, 1 year a strong A candidate then the next year a B with no explanation.

If I had my way it would work something like this:
You are un promotable until you receive a positive recommendation, you then join the list for promotion.
As people infront of you are promoted you go up the list (Which is published) the only way to move up or down the list is to have people promoted above you or if you receive an exceptional you jump above those on the list that haven't received one or drop places if you receive a formal warning etc.
To maintain your standing on the list you have to receive a positive assesment i.e. at least recommended.
Everyone knows where they stand and excellence is rewarded by moving up the list quicker.

just a thought, needs tweeking possibly but has got to be more transparent and open than the way things are done now IMO.

It'll never work. That system employs common sense and we can't have that in HM Armed Forces now can we?

Yep - Monday a go-go.

On Pre-Board, i asked to find out and they said no they won't tell me, i only wanted to know so i can decide if i look to move to wiltshire, guess my plans are on hold for a bit longer then.

Will they really announce grading at the end of the board, given they aren't announcing pre-board now i doubt they would announce it after.

We shall see, not holding my breath this time, what's the point.

I find it hard to believe that they make sucha fuss over the pre board that they wont tell us were we came, at least id have an idea if i was going to be in with a shout this year if they told me or else wait even longer to sort out my choices.

How is easy is it to get a recommended? The system works as it stands, all yor idea will do is bring in assessment creep and everyone will get an exceptional. You will be advocating time promotion next

You will be able to find out whether you were A, B or C once the board has been ratified.

That's info straight from Promotions.

Why the change in policy to after ratification rather than as soon as pre boarding has finished?

how does it work?

how does it work?

Last year I was in the 80's as an A candidate whilst out of trade. (I'm an av cpl) on a recommended. This year I had an exceptional with loads of good examples to back it up- organised and instructed A.T. courses qualifying personnel in training, carried out Charity work, took on loads of SNCO duties at work aswell as doing my own job and I came in the 200's as an A candidate after the station careers advisor said my assessment was one of the best he had ever read. Only thing I can think of is for some reason my x500 had dropped of jpa and I hadn't noticed as I didn't need it in my out of trade job. Its now back on and back dated correctly but I'm not promoted and facing redundancy. Any ideas what I could \ should do? Assuming I still have a job next week I will try again for next year.

As far as I can tell there's a couple of reasons:

1. It reduces the phone calls to manning prior to a board ie everyone wanting to know where they are, followed by almost as many phone calls 2 weeks later with everyone wanting to know where they came on the actual board.

2. It removes the expectation of those selected as A grades that they are going to come off the board and allows manning to provide a more detailed reason for the pre board results.

I'm not saying that I agree with the decision, in fact I think that the process should be more open with A, B, C and U grades notified of their position. I understand that it would take more work to do this but a notification on JPA would suffice. That would not only let everyone know where they stand but would give an early warning to those that are U grades and need to start the process of having their SJARs read.

new grading system

new grading system

I was told by a bitter and twisted bloke down the pub....:PDT_Xtremez_42:
grading system goes...
A - TCW/90SU and those known by the specialist member
(this can change to 1RS/ Cosford and those known by the specialist member-on the odd occasion)

B - the hard working ones who knuckle down and get on with it

C - Those fresh out - don't worry get to 90 and you can skip B and get straight to A:PDT_Xtremez_28:

U - those that have seen the light and are getting out or those on 90 who don't succumb to the party line and have their reports held in the ether until after board sits.

There will be a few A's from around the Airforce but these will be down the bottom end just between the predicted figures and the actual position they reach just to wind them up year on year and give them something to whine about?

Sarcasm I realise, but come on, the specialist member has nothing to do with grading.

A slotted airman made a service complaint last year when their pre board position dropped from 20's to 120's. Guess what? The work shy out of trade for 5 years moaning cnut got promoted when the complaint was upheld on the flimsiest of pretences.
If you don't know your pre board score you can't complain...
