England wont win a major tournament.

PSBM you are usually right but just this once, just once, could I just have some irational hope? We beat the eyeties, the boxheads have a poor day at the office so we beat Greece, Spain play in blue and pick Torres up front and some Polish chav nicks all their boots we win job done.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Headline news. Scousers get England through.

Liverpool stalwart and captain Gerrard crosses ball for ex Everton academy player Rooney to head home. 5th offical nominated for OBE. Frank Lampard views not known

Irrational hope is what keeps England fans going. Kept me going for years to the point where I can't be arsed any more because somehow or other the media always thought we were going to win the next tournament just because we are Engerland.
Maybe a totally underwhelming manager and expectations taken down several pegs is the way ahead :PDT_Xtremez_14:

One of the reasons I hope England do well, and thats coming from a sweaty. The media haven't kicked the arse out it this year and I am a fan of Hodgson so hopefully you get a good run and reach the final.

Did it cross the line? yes
Was he offside in the initial build up? yes

That incident is a non starter after seeing a replay of the whole passage of play. Yet again, and against technically inferior opposition we have set up to stay tight and defend - and - fair play to Hodgson we've won the game. He's a very experienced coach and accomplished tactician and if the lads listen to him we'll do as well as can be expected with the players available.

Roll on Sunday and the Italians.

I thought we'd be in the semis.

Think if you beat Italy, get the winners of Czech v Portugal in semi, beat them and as long as Germany win their games. Be a good final.

Let's not get too carried away because, and it might just be me, I'm still not that convinced/confident England have that a chance. I hope we do!

Getting out of that group was as much as I was hoping for with the players Hodgson took. will we win it? hell no, if normallity applies and getting past Italy will almost be as hard as Spain. But its knock out and if Grecce could win it 8 years ago, well.

Hodgson isn't one to provide pretty football but he does seem able to grind out wins with minimal resources. Did it at Fulham and WBA.

We'll just have give him a chance and hope this time in a few days we are still unbeaten after penalties

Let's hope the press doesn't put him on a pedestal, then kick the legs from under him as per usual!

Nice to see Chris has his priorities in check.Good lad:PDT_Xtremez_14:

She will be raging if England make the final.

Big one tonight, the almost total lack of hysteria is most refreshing. I predict penalties and another nail biter....

It'll be a moot point though as I simply cannot see anything stopping the Duetsch juggernaught....

Agree Spain look good and play pretty stuff in patches but the boxheads have impressed with their ruthless football. But i really hope England do get through tonight against super Mario and his mates. Then the low key media will stop as the red tops massively crank up the 1966, two world wars etc etc.

I like the realistic approach we have under Hodgson. He knows our limitations and strengths and plays to them - simples. As a unit I still fancy we can do a job on the spanish or germans if it comes to it, if we cut out the mistakes and utilise the pace of walcott and the ox off the bench when the oppositions legs tire we've definitely got a sniff at making the final. We might be boring for 65-70 minutes but if it gets us results I couldn't care less - ask any Chelsea fan this season.

Yep, I can see tonights match going into extra time. Mate and I discussed and agreed whilst watching last night's match that we can't see us going any further than the semis the way Germany had played IF we get past Italy.

TBH, even if we had come second in the group and played Spain last night, I thought England's performance would have been similar to France's.

Well, as thought, we're in extra time and I think England have run right out of luck now (at least 3 good Italian chances). Rooney's been a bit pointless tonight IMHO!

Extra time part 2 super Mario has forgotten his boots and brought his shooting flip flops so far, 15 mins to penalties, hope springs eternal. Rooney's done nowt
Three little words:PDT_Xtremez_30:
