FS to WO Board

Numbers is not the point here. The bloke did not fill one of the drafting/PSF/VIP jobs and still got promoted. The move from FS to WO is not the most difficult (In terms of ratio) certainly, but the assumption that an individual needs to have the drafting/PSF/VIP tick to get promoted is just wrong.

You have to do your job well, regardless of what it is. I think it's a little wrong to compare drafting and PSF posts to others because they are such a huge proportion of the available jobs (Particularly at Sgt rank). It also does a dis-service to those very good people who have done other types of job who have been promoted.

The major factor in making it from FS to WO is maintaining life.

This is a bit tongue in cheek because the jump from Sgt to FS is normally very hard and it is the investment in careers here that enables individual to zoom up to WO so quickly and deservedly.

The full story being that he had no appraisals from drafting as a FS?Because he drafted as a Sgt, that got him his WO????? Come on, let's keep things honest here. Accounts and bogs n drains got a good man his warrant.

Point taken but I doubt he had enough time in bogs & drains to even get an assessment there so all done as accounts? and yes he is a good man!

Still if you getting picked up for Wobbly before me it will have everything to do with your ex-drafting background!!:PDT_Xtremez_15:

Pretty obvious that you have to do your job well regardless of what it is!!

Also, obvious is that people are promoted from other jobs, however remember many of us outside the PSF/Drafting jobs work just as hard but in many cases seem to have to wait a hell of a while longer for the promotion to come along than some who have done 4 or 5 years drafting etc.

- be interesting to know how many drafters have been promoted from JUST their time at Innsworth/HW though whilst presidents of boards maintain their stance of too many people in just one job...

As I have said before, there is actually more to life than promotion and many will get their just rewards in time but why of why do people often say you need to have a PSF etc background - we are a masively diverse trade job wise and all are as important surely?. Remember also that you can't always get what you want but continue to crack on and do a great job.

I asked yesterday but has anyone any idea of how the FS-WO and Sgt-FS boards are standing at the moment?

If i remember correctly there are only 3 FS VIP posts anyway. A well written appraisal certainly helps a great deal and I'd certainly give more weight to someone who'd done a variety of jobs, rather than one type of employment. No system is perfect.

Yeah a well written appraisal is the answer. The question is how many 1st RO's can write well?

Understand FS-WO board has reached No 16 with a few prior to this number offered another job at HW.....a few WO posts have been created too.....

Oh well 'Up the 'ammers!!

I know that my posts are boring and at the risk of killing this thread, I'll repeat what I said earlier:

you need to politely explain to your RO how he could possibly 'beef up' your write up.

I believe that for the most part you have a responsibility to yourself to make sure that your report does you justice. Don't blame it on the poor writing skills of your 1RO.

You may be unlucky enough to have a Boss that really does not see how good you are, or alternatively you may not be as good as you think you are (not pointing any fingers). But for the most part, I think that the system we have is as fair as we can get.

Interestingly (see my comment about my posts being boring), I've read that employees in organisations that have little chance of promotion are usually happier than those who work in places that promote under a merit system; i.e. they don't expect to get promoted so are therefore not disappointed with staying at the same level/grade.
 
Rumour has it they are down to no 17 on the FS-WO board so things are moving along quite nicely may even get to mid-20's!!

Off TopicI also understand that the next Sgt-FS board in Feb is looking for 26; good numbers once again - are there that many FS/WO's leaving or are we creating more posts or both or more - anyone any ideas?

I am not complaining, it's good that promotion is so good at the mo.

You will find that there are more Flt Lt posts being upgraded to WO posts, hence the increase in numbers of FS to WO promotions :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Heard the same as Elf - 17. As an aside I believe someone on the last Sgt - FS board got picked up after only 6 years in rank - bl**dy nora, standards or what? When I was a boy you needed at least 10 years in rank, 47 AOC's commendations and had to have had at least 2 wives and one nervous breakdown.

Hey I may be only 5' 10" but I am not an Elf!! LOL

Yes I believe No 17 on the FS-WO board (a CM so no probs there then...!)but understand still no 38 on Sgt-FS board, next board in Feb so still has a little time to run I guess.

Amazing to think 40 or so Sgt's getting their crown, and as you say some after only 5 or 6 years while I know others who have the 'required' 10 years who are spitting feathers!! ah well.....

If you are good enough it doesn't mean you will get promoted as we all know.

If however you are a CM/PSF/VIP type then you stand a far better chance than the others, as you would know! so stfu

and for those who don't agree then no probs - opinions are like arseholes remember - everyone has one but please explain how a CM of 3 1/2 years in one job gets his wobbly - and stays at HW of course - while others outwith the Manning environment who have a lot more experience and diverse jobs don't get near him on the board and when they get offered it's to some sh!t hole.....interesting eh........ it's all part of their master plan - line up the jobs for themselves, change dates to suit...it stinks TBH
