I have a question regarding a tree thing in my garden.
Its some sort of pine thing and its about 8 foot tall. The trouble is that its taken a battering this winter and is leaning over at a 30-40 degree angle. I have tried to push it back upright and rope it to the fence but its roots are too strong to allow this.
Can I dig it up and replant it or would that kill it?
The trunk at the base is about 4 inches across, so its quite sturdy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I move out in a few months, so I have to get it sorted.

Heres a pic of the offending tree!

to be honest mate ~i think the best bet is to write it off. You could try driving a stake in along side it and gradually pull it in to the stake a little at a time but personally i'd whip it out now before the roots get any bigger and start again mate.

Cheers old bean. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I was thinking that would be the case, just reluctant to kill the old fella off without first checking.

Your grass could do with a trim also!! :PDT_Xtremez_31: :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Tell me about it. Rainy evenings and sunny days make for quick growing grass!
With all the rain, its like a marsh out there.
Trouble is though, it always seems to be wet over the weekends when I want to get out and mow it.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

kin slugs

kin slugs

Put my beans out 2 weeks ago and they are flying along due to no frost and warm damp conditions but!! I had a look this afternoon after work and one of them is just a bare 8 inch high stick with the remnants of a single tattered leaf hanging from one side forgot about bl00dy slugs who have decimated this one strangely they have left the others untouched. Slug pellets in abundance tonight. Slugs :PDT_Xtremez_25:

has to be said, I fcuking hate slugs:PDT_Xtremez_24:

I don't have much trouble with slugs the birds go for them all and then cover everything in poop. My main problem is dragonflies, they leave the plants alone but I get so many flying round it keeps the insects right down, but dragonflies don't pollenate anything.

And frogs, loads and loads of frogs come through my garden every year, makes cutting the grass quite interesting at times.

And slugs fecking hate salt...............but so do plants.

We have problems with slugs too. My wife saves all our egg shells and crushes them and then spreads them around new plants. The slugs hate it and stay well clear. For more prolific attacks, I bury a large jam jar up to its neck and half fill with beer. The slugs throw themselves in like bloody lemmings and drown. Good eh?

But if you were a true man there is no way on God's good earth you should be wasting valuable beer on slugs...

My plot has sprung to life over the past 2 weeks...Spuds everywhere, beans getting taller, peas poking through...in fact the only disaster was I forgot to put up the anti-bunny fencing again on one of the beds after planting some cauli's and cabbage saplings and the little furry b@stards were in like a rat out of an aquaduct and chomped the lot...

Good point there Vim - that's why I only ever use bottled lager. Got mountains of the stuff that I'll never drink anyway. I only ever offer it to foreign visitors, down-and-outs and slugs. I'd NEVER use real ale!
:PDT_Xtremez_14:

I heard that beer which has been..............erm, "Refined" also works.

Is that using the Airman filtration machine :PDT_Xtremez_34:

EDIT

Just to add I have been entering all the comps on Gardeners world web site, god knows what I will do with a big mower since I live in a flat:PDT_Xtremez_27:

Wait.... got it!
Slug racing kits!
You paint the different racing colours on 'em and I'll stick em on Ebay!
We'll all be millionairs!

Sorry matey.
Slugs have to be obliterated.

I just object to wasting un-drunk beer on them.

I have my own way of dealing with them.

I have my compost bins.
I fill them with my garden waste. After all, we keep being told to recycle.
Slugs go into the compost bin to feed on the rotting vegetation.
One of the best ways of starting the composting process is to pe..........erm........pi..........erm.........urinate on it.:PDT_Xtremez_31:

Now, if you were to sneak out the in the late evening, and pee waste beer, and the slugs gets a soaking......................job done.

Just don't get caught caught next doors wifey. You may have difficulty in explaining yourself.:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Yesterday all my seedlings were doing just great, but I came home from work tonight and had a look at them.

They have been on the window ledge in seed trays with a plastic cover on them for a propagator, but when I took the lid off the majority of the seedlings looked as if they had wilted and been pinched in at the base of the stems.

Any ideas on what can cause this, is it because they were in a warm area in sunlight all day, and is there any way to fix it or should I just bin them now and start again?

It's called damping off and usually means they gt too moist and hot at the same time, take the poly off now and leave it and get some cheshunt liquid from the garden centre to strengthen them. Stick with the survivors they could be ok provided you keep them ventilated.
