How come there are still people posting here that think if you don’t pass a fitness test that you are some sort of burden to your section? Please explain.

As far as I know nobody has ever not gone out of area through not passing a fitness test, however there are plenty of people with sporting injuries who don’t go and bound to be many more from trying to attain the new levels.

There are a few people on my Sqn that have never passed a fitness test in their entire career go out of area regularly and return with glowing performance reports.

Just having different levels for male and female makes a joke of these tests. Surely the physical aspects of a job are the same for either sex or in theatre a injured colleague still weighs the same to either sex and a mile is also a mile to run if need be. So why different levels when we are paid the same to do the same jobs?

PTI`s? If we can use civvy`s to maintain our aircraft almost exclusively 2nd line and some training first line the RAF can definitely use civvy PTI`s and save some money.

You might want to re-think that last bit mate. You think using civvy PTI's will save money. NOT A FECKING CHANCE MATE. I am a Personal Trainer and if you think using us will save the RAF money then you are off your trolley. Nationwide the average hourly rate for Personal Training is £40 per hour. Increase this down in London to £70 per hour and you will see how ridiculous your comment is. Working an 8 hour day will cost the RAF £320 per day per Trainer, how many RAF PTIs are on that much?????? NONE. You would probably get 4 or 5 RAF PTIs for that.

A little more thought next time eh:PDT_Xtremez_35:

I just wish everyone would stop bleating about fitness test levels. They are the levels that are laid down, meet them or face the consequences. It's as simple as that. In other words get your fat, lazy asses out of your chairs and do some fecking phys.:PDT_Xtremez_30: ::/: ::P: :PDT_Xtremez_15:

This coming from someone who just shouts at someone else to do it? :PDT_Xtremez_15: and hates running!!

It's not your concern.

Ref civvy/personal trainers

Even at the levels you quoted you would still be cheaper as we wouldn't have to pay you for weekends and holidays or give you a pension, training, uniform, sick pay etc.

We wouldn't have to pay you for full days or all week anyway, just the hours we need you.

Ooooh, get her. I may not like running but I still do it at least 3 times a week as part of my normal week. 2 training sessions a day, 5 days a week. ::P: :PDT_Xtremez_15:

So in your infinate wisdom how many PTs do you think would be needed for a single station and for how many hours per week per Trainer?

Bearing in mind that there would be no-one to organise anything like lunchtime or evening circuit classes, general gym advice and cover during the day for the gym itself.

I am genuinely curious about this one.

Who mentioned replacing PTI's with Personal trainers ??

Totally different mate ...... You show me a PE teacher in a school anywhere in the country that gets £40-£70 an hour !!!!

Cos lets face it thats all these monkeys are really, not fecking personal trainers.

We had a civvy years back now at Coltishall and he most certainly wasnt on that kind of cash............ BUT he was better than the pretty boys in white tracky tops by a fecking mile, circuits were always packed at lunch times.

Intriguing - Just get out of our chairs and do some phys... Well let me tell you, that those of us in the RAF employed to do a job, are doing exactly that - working... all bloody day. Can I come and test your mechanical / soldering / electrical skills, and if you're crap, can we boot you out? In theater, I'm a techie, without tradesmen, there's no point in us being there. PTI's are guards and stretcher bearers, highly useful. As for the fitness test, what if everyone reaches set levels?? Raise them again? What about next time? Will 40 year olds be running to level 15? Give me a break... And as for females running, doing press ups and sit ups.. well guess what, ammo boxes and such weigh the same irrespective of gender. If we are not tested the same, how can females be expected to do the same? End of rant.:PDT_Xtremez_06:

Kwaka mentioned civvy PTIs therefore no matter what you personally think of RAF PTIs you would think of a Personal Trainer as the civvy equivalent as opposed to a 'fitness instructor' or PE teacher.

As for being a tradesman, yes I wholeheartedly agree with that, but what a lot of you seem to forget is that you are a tradesman in the RAF, not a civvy and as such you are required to maintain a certain level of fitness that is laid down by those above. By signing on the dotted line you agreed to abide by that, so why do you find it necessary to have a whinge about it. You knew the gen, you signed the paperwork so just get on with it.:PDT_Xtremez_15:

And you'll still get the derisory 1 - 2 % annual payrise even if you don't get an increment (forgot to mention that on the pay cut line :PDT_Xtremez_15: )

Indeedy and i agree with most of what you say, BUT when they keep changing the required standard how can you say we signed up for that ?

When i signed on it was a mile and a half run, then it changed to the current crap and even that has increased about 3 times since it has been introduced.

Also when i joined up we were given 4 travel warrents per year.........they took them away from us...they didn't say they were gonna take them away when i signed up.....

Crack on..........:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Aye, do you think what I signed resembles anything like what we currently have? Negative Mr Rock. The RAF giveth, then taketh away. Problems is, the RAF just takes all the time now. Disgruntled? You bet mate, and theres more like me than you. If I fail my fitness test, does that stop me going OOA? Nope. So I can do my job, unfit, in the harshest possible, most demanding of situations, but still be unacceptable to current fitness standards? Why? Sounds like fitness standards need to be re-evaluated! Do the Navy have to swim? Yes. Do I? No. See??? It is job specific. Again, end of rant.

So why do I have to be able to swim? It'll be part of my training, if you can't swim they teach you, going by that comment there is no reason for it.

So why do all stewards have to do an annual swim test??
