Has any females supposed lack of fitness let the RAF down in either operational theatre over the past few years? I personally dont see the problem with females doing female press ups but i feel their bleep test level should be raised.

Isn't she the one who gives up all too easily when things dont go her way, or am I confusing her with some other crying wench???
Yeah.......the one who has just won the New York marathon 10 months after giving birth and being told it was the end of her career, thats the one mate. ::P:

Does a female PTI have to pass the same levels as her male counterparts to pass her training ?

If they do then the rest of the lazy fnucking munters can get there sweaty fat cracks out of the pie shop and down the gym !!!!!

AND DO THE SAME AS I HAVE TO.................for the same cash.

What is the incentive, or rather punishment for failing the fatness test? One guy at my gaff failed his every time (in fact he's so fat he got downgraded and now can't do it at all) but still gets his pay rises, and so on.

If there's punishment, the flip side of the coin is there has to be preparation! PT in work. :)

These new fitness levels are a joke. By all means lets do sport, exercise and do a fitness check (not test) to encourge folks to keep fit. Increasing fitness levels and increasing test times to twice a year is not going to make things any better. Folks have enough on thier plates at the moment to worry about, then fitness levels. I am out in just over a year, so I am not at all interested in passing these fitness tests anymore. What benefit is it going to serve me, by doing these tests. I keep very active fitness wise as it is, but these tests are not relivant if you continuly prove that you can do your job out on ops.:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Whilst I couldn't quote verbatim, a muscle mech once told me that....

"Females have to do less because, as a rule, they do not have the same aerobic capacity as males"

wish my lads knew this- save me lugging random bits of engine (like yesterday's FMPU)/ crates of oil (42 bl00dy cans grr) up and down the stands....

its not going to happen is it? LOL but i draw the line at gennys- its over half my body weight so i'm not moving it

Spot on mate ............. to many moaning to$$ers. Knock em down a level if they fail.

A whole 15 minutes of your precious time twice a year ............ get on with it.

That would be a problem. Perhaps a percentace of X factor removal.

Perhaps they could take a percentage of the X factor off those who are downgraded and can't go OOA or do guard seeing as how that's part of what it's for.

Also, is it fair to kick someone out who can do their job, go OOA but just can't pass their FT and keep someone in who is never at work and is exempt their FT because they're medically downgraded?

On the flip side, I know people who cannot pass their fitness test, but they are damm good workers, when others are off playing sport or on expeds these are the people holding the fort. Would it be fair to punish these people ?

You know, all this fitness test malarkey is really an emotive issue which I think has put a very clever smoke screen around the real issues effecting the RAF at the mo.

Before the advent of bleep tests we had the 1 1/2 mile run which, lets face it, wasn't really policed. Yet, I never recall anyone failing to do their job, on ops or on base, due to their level of fitness.

So why all this now?
Do we need to be fitter than we did 20 years ago? Possibly.
Do we need to be tested on it twice a year? Probably not.

All this aside, everyone feels very strongly about the whole thing, whether for or against, just look at the size of this thread for instance.

In my work place, most of the talk is now about fitness tests (mainly about how they're going to fail) and about how they could get time off to go to the gym (which, I might add is a whole lot easier in my section than a lot of others).

Genius isn't it? There now seems to be a sidelining by most people about what really matters; Pay, equipment (lack of), increased ops, decreased manpower, ageing equipment etc.

I'm not saying everyone has completely forgotten about the important stuff, it just seems that with something else to worry about on a personal level everything else is taking a back seat.

Blimey, have I created a bit of a conspiracy theory here?

Also, is this all a 'fitness for life' issue?
Well, as no-one is going to be working in the RAF past age 55 and the RAF has never given a monkeys about what happens to anyone when they leave? Then, No, I can't see an argument for that either.

Generally what you say is pretty well thought out.......... BUT

Yes we do need to be fitter - we may have less sickies and more workers that way

Fitness should be continually assesed

Equipment - I'll stick with my CS95 and SA80 rather than DMS/Putties and an SLR

We get payed -- if we didn't like it we would just leave

Increased ops or is just we now have ops ??

Ageing equipment - talk to the Typhoon guys on that one !

Maybe if we were a fitter force we may not see so many fat barstewards and sick note wielding wasters amongst our lower numbers.

thats it for now I think
