I'm a relative smalley to some of you.

8284 is my first 4.

Swinderby in 86 was flaming snowing and bloody cold.

I dont even try to understand todays numbering!

Here's one for you shineys out there...........
Does anyone know the significance of service numbers begining with 8271?

Not a shiney but I seem to think that 827 numbered people are extremely gullible, as they spent their first 18 months or 2 years being paid £25 a week before deductions. Whoever came up with the military YTS was a star in those bean counters eyes.

8014

I too was gullible. First weeks pay 30 shillings, next week 2pounds 50 pence and couldn't wait to be 17 as I would then get 3 pounds. Mad or what.

I can confirm 8270 8271 and 8272 are indeed YTS
Poor defencless 16 and 17 year olds duped into joining the RAF between 1986 and 1990 around 3000 of em all in. All for £27 a week then minus £10 for food and accomodation.
Some of us are still in.
My med doc's still bear the red stamp of shame.

What are the first four digits of your service number? Not including the letter. If you don't have a letter, you needn't bother posting anyway ;)

I saw a Sgt Aircrew a week or two ago with 8550....

Mines 8505. There are still people serving with 81xxxxx numbers!

Sadly I can beat that one, mine is 1961... and I've recently retired!
