OOA turn round times

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Rank-ranging IS the solution. You are correct. But we are meant to be empowering personnel at the lowest possible level. With the correct pre-employment training I don't see why cpls cannot fill Sgt OOA posts.

As for distancing myself from the rank of Sgt, I am not. But it is generally easier to run one Sgt light in a Section that one FS light, because there are a lot more Sgts than FSs. How many FSs do you think are in the Trade? There are not many at all.

I could be wrong here, but flt sgt's and sgt's are SENIOR NCO's and cpl's are JUNIOR NCO's, so it would make more sense to group sgt's and flt sgt's OOA posts as senior NCO's posts. There is a reason that posts are rank designated, its the minimum seniority required to do the job, this is why its cpl's in the CAOC rather than SAC's. You say that with PET a cpl could go out and do a sgts job!! if thats the case, why not just promote cpls to sgts?
Again, let me state, the only way out of this is to get rid of anyone that isnt able to do OOA on a long term basisand replace them with people who are!!!

And if Shamless's figures are correct, out of those 136 sgt's, theres' only about 72 that are medically fit for deployment.

Got to say if that is right we should get shot of the broken 64 and for once give the slightly frustated cpls a chance, instead of letting us sit and wait to see who has not been promoted because various slots have been blocked by those too poorly or fat to get on a tristar.

Maybe we should take an example from LOGANS RUN and kill off all over the over 30's (that's stone - not age):PDT_Xtremez_28:

Fomble your wrong.

A Cpl shouldn't (not can't) do many of the jobs FOM's do OOA.

As a man of your experience will be aware a high percentage of deployed FOMS act as J3 Watchkeepers. As a Sgt it can be tough telling an Army General he can't have air assets, It would be that much more difficult for a Cpl because the Army do percieve a significant difference between JNCO's and SNCO's.

On the other hand during my last holiday in the sand pit my fellow watchkeepers were; a FS NCA, Staff Sgt and CPO so there is no question that Flight Sergeants FOMS are the ideal rank for the job.

Do not misconstrue my point as saying that Cpls are not ABLE to do the job, many are, but it would not be fair to put them in that position. The Cpls do a great job in other areas such as Flight Planning and as was suggested in an earlier post there would be nothing wrong with identifying Cpls close to promotion and asking them if they would like to volunteer as an acting paid Sgt OOA.

The natural grouping is Sgt's and F/Sgts, in exactly the same way as the army dual role Sgts and Staff Sgts (Colour Sgts), WO's are a different kettle of fish and as much as you may try to delude yourself that your role as a FSgt is closer to that of a WO rather than a Sgt you are quite simply..... Wrong.

Feel free to PM - and if your going to the fives let me know and we can continue the dicussion over a pint.

Sorry all at joining in to the debate rather late.......Lots of opinions coming out of this.
However, SSH I take the right hump with your comments below.:PDT_Xtremez_25:

The FS are more than happy to take the cushy dets but baulk at going to Telic and Herrick. If FS are happy to do the cushy ones then they should take a go at the not so nice ones.

WTF.......Talk about 'tarring' us all with the same brush............True there are some who are happy to jump at the chance of a nice 4 month det in Bahrain or Naples and take up a Sgt FOM slot, BUT THERE ARE SOME OF US who take what comes.

I know 'banging your head against a brick wall', sorry that should have read working with the Army in bosnia for 6 months isn't the hardest det I have ever done, but I would hardly call it 'cushy'.
