Isn't it a bit early for the next pay rise rumour? Don't these things usually kick off about February, before the usual crock of **** in April?

I'm sure last year's rumours started much earlier than this time but I can't be @rsed trawling for the details.

The Pay rise normally gets set up around now, the Govt likes to use the September inflation figure to set pay and benefit rises (MPs excluded), this allows the rest of the workers a chance to go on strike and complain before it comes into effect whilst we normally get told in Feb.

8% my arse. No one will get that much in the public sector except mp's let alone all of the trades on the higher pay band. That would make the gulf between higher and lower pay ranges too much, and the door wont be able to close because of the rush of people running out of it.

Come on Wgaf, your normally above such nonsense.

Pay Rise

Pay Rise

There is much talk of this in wokka wokka land... However, rumour on the street is that the Trade Sponsors are carrying out a pay review of TG1 and TG 1+1. The last such review was over 20 years ago, and, as such, the other ancilliary trades have been upped for changes in responsibilities and job specs (and for retention purposes) when we have had no further to go in pay talk.

With the current dire problems with recruiting AMMs (approx 68% manned according to PMA Bulletin) there will be no promotions as there is no-one to fill the 'lower holes' (ooh that's rude). So the only way forward appears to be more pay to get people to join - hence no 8% pay rise, but possibly a new higher higher pay band?!

And that's from a friend of a friend who knows the Polish cleaner who empties the bin in the office of the bloke next door to the bloke that knows - HONEST.

Aahhh - I hear Afghan calling....

Aircraft trades were excluded from the review!

This comes up quite often at the CAS briefings, I always laugh when some FL admin bird gets reduced to tears by a rigger chief because she dosent actually know the details of her job.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

I think the the last CAS used to find it amusing watching this vitriolic tsunami of hate crushing his junior officers.

Well, shame on the people who you refer to as 'Rigger Chief' - have they never heard the term 'Don't shoot the messenger'?

What's the point in bringing some young lass to the point of tears (very big of them).

Where the hell do these people get off?

People are touchy when it comes to money and integrity, if someone asks when are we going to have a pay review and then someone says you've just had one in front of a hanger full people you had better got your facts straight cos you've just called that man a cnut! In front of everyone he works with and sits next to in the mess!

When you make statements, in briefings, in front of lots of people, who know their trade and what goes on within it you really need to know what you are saying. If you don't you deserve what you get.

If I had to answer a question in front of the CAS where I didnt know the subject matter I would never make a flippant remark that makes them look stupid and ignorant of their specialist trade branch.

Still it doesn't matter as I do not believe a new pay structure will be brought in. AMMs at 68%? Lab techs are at 56%, How would you quantify who moves up? It would just start again with everyone arguing why they should move up a band

In that case, agreed!

This wasn't a pop at you, MeRlIn HaTeR; on the contrary, if the bloke was indeed made to look a cnut by the briefer, and, through his trade-knowledge, he smacked them down, fair enough. Had I known this to be the case, I'd have left the soap box under the stairs...

Apologies.

the problem with "techies" pay is our own trade sponsors. all the other trade sponsors have been actively looking after their people and getting them into the higher pay band which was previously avalable to techies. our trade sponsors have said we should be in the techie trades out of pride, well pride doesnt pay the mortgage or reward you for the 18 months of traing you have to pass before reaching "techie" pay. without sounding bitter, the PTI sponsors have worked wonders for their trade by getting them £25+ pay a year after joing up, the techie takes at least 3 and a 1/2 years to get to techie pay whereas the PTI takes 6 months. several techies have been speaking to their bosses asking to remuster to trades that don't work nights or weekends but still have the higher pay band.

I have to agree with you - we get ourselves compared (involuntary I must add) to nurses who are all on the higher payband yet they managed to recommend our FS and WO for lower payband. The FS was only averted when the TS realised how small the trade was and how much smaller it would become if it was followed through.
If pay was linked to trade training and further qualifications, I believe we would all be on the higher payband. Unfortunately it seems to rely on the lottery of who the TS is, and more importantly, how competent the personnel are who are presented to the assessing board.

The Trade Sponsor, regardless of the TG, has zero input into pay. It is an independent body - JSJET - that 'grade' the range of jobs carried out by a trade and allocate them to a pay grade/level.

Its getting abit silly now, where the majority of us are on the high pay band.

When you really look at the bigger scene, which major company pays their admin, cooks or supply staff any where near the same salary as their technicians/engineers?

We all know the answer NONE!

Now i`m not saying they dont deserve the salary they are all now on, just the fact TG1 should be rewarded a little better than they currently are.

Well the TS had some input as it went to Surg Gen for intervention. JSJET independant? Carried out by military personnel and its independant? I don't think so.

Thats a good one, say that out in civvy street we would all head for the door, giving a two fingered salute as we went. I agree that the trade sponsor seems to be doing very little, if not feck all to defend the techie situation here. If he or them were in a civvy situation, I would sack the fecking lot of them.

Just a general question here, to any techies that want to have a stab at it..........

If the RAF were to create a 3rd pay scale just for techies, how much more do you think you deserve to get? I'm not looking to start any arguments (i've had enough of them on here over the same subject!), i'm just interested to know how much better than the rest of us you think you are? Also, do you think any other trades deserve to join you?
