Pay Rise

Just spoke to a geezer recently back from somewhere hot, but rained over Christmas, and the guys and girls had a visit from the CinC (somebody high up apparently) who told them this years pay rise is going to be 13% (yes thirteen percent). Any gen out there?

I reckon he was yanking your chain pal...honestly.

Be interesting to know where the money would come from for that!
Pure fantasy I reckon.........unfortunately.

do behave!! (said in a very camp 'carry on' style voice) if you believe that you'll believe anything. We didn't get 13% after the 1st Gulf War and that was a monster pay rise.

Typical of Blair to go better than the tories and after his showing in Pompey I think he was trying to justify such pay rise.

The Armed Forces' Pay Review Body don't meet until next month, so any rumour, whether it's 3% or 13% is exactly that - a rumour.

It probably will be 13%, but in troo noo labour fashion, this will be staged over 13 years by which time you will be made redundant, have alredy PVR'd or died from laughing.

I should imagine that they are meeting now or have completed their deliberations as 2006 review was announced on the 16th Feb.

I've been scouring the t'interweb trying to find some mention of when they are meeting/publishing their recommendations - nothing.

With all the adverse press, RPI at 4.4%, inflation at 3%+ and current pay settlements at 4 - 7%, has Bungle Brown got the nerve to stick with his proclamation that public pay settlements should be no more than 2%?

Yes, he probably has. What does he care? He will argue that higher pay rises for the public sector would have to be paid for by higher taxes for the private sector majority blah blah blah.
