Pay Rise

Just spoke to a geezer recently back from somewhere hot, but rained over Christmas, and the guys and girls had a visit from the CinC (somebody high up apparently) who told them this years pay rise is going to be 13% (yes thirteen percent). Any gen out there?

When and how much was the last MP's/Ministers pay rise?

This article quotes their present wage and how much they are alledgedley asking for:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6205852.stm

I now down grade my previous prediction (on another thread) for our pay rise to 2 - 2.3% due to the fact that Brown has to curb wage rise led inflation and we can't strike...Tied in with what we, I think, are about to hear this Wednesday he will be welcoming the 'Right, thats it...I'm leaving' brigade....

Sack the flaming lot of them i say. Bloody leaches. 75 hours a week plus? Does that include all the lunches, dinner parties and travelling and such like. All paid for by the taxpayer already.

They should be put on performance related pay and made to WORK for a living the pillocks. Talk about lining their own pockets. £130,000 average expenses? What the fook are they doing? My Sqn doesn't have that amount of expenses per year for personnel ffs.

What they forget to mention is that while a common or garden constituency MP earns 60K, the PM earns about 3 times that, with a whole range of salaries in between for Cabinet ministers, under-secretaries and so on.

Also, most of them (PM included) have private interests, and have positions on the board of directors of various companies who enjoy the kudos of having an MP on the board. 2 hours a month for 50K seems to be the going rate.

'Pay them more'

Former Conservative MP Michael Portillo told the BBC MPs who could earn more than the £60,000 salary privately, would go out and do so.

"And then people get upset that they are doing more than one job - then that's going to be a problem," he said.

"If you want MPs to live on their MPs' salary you are probably going to have to pay them more."

I wouldn't mind earning 60k p.a. on a single wage with a salary related pension.
Surely to god these people are supposed to be in politics to represent their constituents and because they want to make a diference not purely to make as much money as possible? Or am I just being naive?

Your being naive.

Eh, whats that going to be then?

£6 billion worth of cuts to defence hammering mainly dark and light blue...The only figure I 've heard this week so far is dark blue down to 19000 but I stand by my long running prediction of light blue down to 34000...

Would we be known as the FORCE then.............Will stop there before I go into Star wars Babble

Well you earned your Nerd tag!!!

Anyways, I severly hope not because you know what service will be the parent?? And I didn't join the ferking army! Option to move or leave??? You'll find me in the nearest McDonalds.

I think the 13 he was referring to may, or may not have been, the Sqn in residence at the time.

:PDT_Xtremez_28:

I can't see us getting any more than maybe 3% if we're lucky. And just think what would happen to the inhabitants of Norfolk if the Lib Dem idea of wage related local income tax came in to play... (rapdily exits stage left...)

After reading all previous posts on this subject, we all dearly deserve and are well overdue a pay rise that reflects what we are doing in terms of contributing to the future of this country and what we are sacrificing so much for overseas.( no matter how misguided the reasons were for going to war) With what is going to be announced soon from that **** Gordon Brown, all I can see is the usual yearly pay rise (below the rate of inflation). This together with the savings he has to make, we are all in the firing line again. These reasons, I beleive will tip the balance. There is just so much that we can all take from these load of idiots. Who have only recently had a massive pay hike.
If we don't receive what I think we have deserved time and time again over the last few years for. It would confirm to me once and for all, just how taken for granted we all are, and what mugs this goverment takes us for. How utterly disrespectful. If an airship is reading this, or any other higher rank. The writing is well and truly on the wall for you to read. Forget about protecting your pensions for a change, and have some balls to start squaring up these pricks in the MOD. Saying," Enough is enough, start listening to what is been said by us, or else people will start walking on mass, and then where will you be to fight your wars".
The last part I wrote is a bit melodrmatic, however with what the state of play is, you never know. Things are balanced on a knife edge. With what way things will turn out in the near future, We will all see soon enough.:PDT_Xtremez_06:

Right listen in wot theys shud do in put the techies in the lower pay band

Here here, with every other trade now claiming high pay band pay they can't afford to keep paying us techies it! If they mixed it in with performance related pay as well I'd be skint, as I haven't made anything 'S' in donks for lack of spares!

Substitute ability for spares.

Oh what promotion does for you!!!, when I worked with you down here you claimed to be the hardest working airman on your shift!!

Wages need to rise a lot in my opinion.
No offence to singlies cos its probably apt in their situation too.
Married personel with kids in general seem to have the main bread earner as the person who is in the RAF. With the postings its hard for the other half to earn a decent pay packet with looking after kids or paying out for childcare. Part time jobs seem the norm to fit in around the kids and service persons shifts.
Married quarters are therefore very handy and well priced. Cue crap pay rises and quarter rent increases year upon year. Cue humongous house prices.
I cant afford a mortgage where I live FFS. Its nearly as exspensive as the home counties and the local wage is well below the countries average.
I have visions of me coming out after 22 and renting with my payout. When thats gone I will dig out a triwall box!
When I joined up a night on the lash would be £30 to £50. Now its over a ton!
Why arent wages doubled?!!!

But anyway, I digressed somewhat from the original point, 13%? F**k off!!!! Never gonna happen!
2%
1%straight away and the other one in October!!

Living the dream boys n girls, living the dream!

The post above says it all.

Married with kids great trap to keep us in .... Quarters are cheap but all the moving around the Country or to very rich areas means average Joe Bloggs is never going to get on the housing market.

One point I would like to add is the £5000 on posting to move home is pathetic......stamp duty alone on a £250K home is £7500 its a joke.

Moving home with a £250K house its going to cost you £12k to 14K a real kick in the nuts and the pay back has been £5000 for donkeys years it pays not to move.

Also I find the loss of my wifes wage while the move goes on is a real killer. And we are lucky she works in the NHS so transfers are good and quick.

Sorry but the RAF is not a good place to bring up kids and hope to have your own home even after 22 years service.

Good luck to you all out there in getting in to the housing market it took me years to get a grip so glad to be getting out of the RAF at last.
