PAYD Bringing ISS To Its Knees

Drill Bit

Hello ladies and gents. Just thought I'd share a little rumour (probably more than a rumour) that the flop that has been PAYD is bringing ISS to it's knees. At a certain Secret ISTAR base where I'm at; PAYD appears to have been an unmitigated disaster; sales on the mobile butty wagon are up 300% since PAYD was implemented. It’s just a pity that ISS own the butty wagon.Have fellow goaters heard similar rumours? Are there any goaters out there who are at a unit where PAYD has been a success. And, what next for ISS and PAYD?

At my PAYD unit, the traditional Junior Ranks Living In Christmas Meal was cancelled as only 5 people signed up for the event - I believe it would have cost around £4 for a traditional dinner etc.

Singlies here now spend time cooking their own food or using local eateries
Complaints here range from lack of core menu availability if you arrive any time after about 16:45 which is hard if you don't finish til 17:00
Staff refusal to cook certain items to order quoting of all things a "medical requirement" to have an omlette
Arriving at the mess with 5 min to spare cause you had to work a bit extra to be told all the food is binned and they aren't cooking any more
It was a good idea on paper and for those who rarely ate in the mess but for most it has turned into a right cluster
Butty van and Naffi coffee house that does all day brekkie do a roaring trade here.

If I decided to go into a customer service related business in an attempt to make lots of cash, I'd do a significant amount of market research to see just exactly what the customer expects and wants; this concept seems to have completely overlooked by ISS. Did they assume that we'd be told to continue to eat in our respective messes, paying more, getting less and at a lower quality? Looks like we've voted with our feet.

I have tried to be the good Airman, shunning fast food and cooking in the block, but I can only say that the food and service which is now provided at a secret Oxfordshire JRM, is nothing short of disgraceful. The core menu is like at best a cheap Aldi frozen meal. Some sittings, the total meat on offer would not amount to a few grams. The mess is pretty empty, the food unbelievably is declining ! I see no future in ISS at this camp. I work in a section of over 60 living in junior ranks, I am one of about 5 who go and my patience is wearing thin.
Not sure how the RAF will get out of this, but maybe they just couldn't give a monkeys ?
The RAF no longer have a responsibility for feeding us and there maybe is their plan all along.
Do they care ? I think not judging by the lack of any RAF senior management intervention at this sinking ship aka ISS.

why should the Airships care? They have a contractor obliged to provide food at all units till whenever it runs out?

At a secret norfolk flicknife base the food is a joke. we've never had so much Haggis of all things! and "meatballs" of all flavours, couldnt tell you the last time I saw a chicken breast on the menu. The Mess has gone from packed every night to perhaps 2 tables full. The fire section are massively pi$$ed as they are constantly attending barrack block false alarms for toasters and cooking setting them off.

Here's an Idea, for the core menu make it a decent meal and make the dessert extra.I would happily pay a bit more for decent food

Ha ha ha brilliant; I though it was just here where it was death by meat balls! I don't even bother with fish and chip Friday anymore; that was my only religion and now it's been taken away from me.

It hasn't been fully implemented here at the secret sausage factory in Lincolnshire. The core menu does not provide enough calories for someone undergoing Phase 1 training especially if they are a big lad with a good bit of muscle.

I am at one of the Units that ran the PAYD pilot, notice I say pilot and not trial, because even 9 years ago I believe it was set in stone that this was the way forward, despite it being a huge failure from the outset. I manage to eat very healthily by cooking in the block with a small table top oven and hob, a microwave and a foreman type grill. Ive just worked out that to buy, just what I need to make 3 meals a day for 5 days it would cost me approximately £25.00. This include basics like milk, bread, potatoes, salad and chicken breasts. Im not 100% sure what the PAYD charges are these days but I believe it works out at just shy of £5 a day for 3 meals. I cannot understand why the mess cannot produce meals of a high standard for £5 a day when they buy and cook in bulk, yet I can do it when shopping at a supermarket?

It would be if you ate the core menu and nothing else, in reality your paying more as not everyone likes the 1 core menu option. we normally have liver, haggis, mechanically reclaimed "meatballs" and other odd concoctions. what you've got to remember is that they are not here to provide you with what you want they are here for the profit.

A while back G4S were going to buy out ISS as they were in debt by the tens of millions...

Sorry, just found the link, make that billions -> http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...8282/Private-equity-predators-circle-ISS.html

Companies like ISS never make a profit - it's paying off debt and operate by managing that debt that keeps them going.

Until, of course, they throw in the towel and pass off this farce to another company. Then, in turn, this new company will pass themselves off as some sort of saviour, changing this and implementing that in the short-term but, in the long term, are no different or better to the previous lot!

FFS, Bring back RAF Chefs!

Can only echo the above ours has gone well downhill. Meatballs morning noon and night here as well! Mess book is full of complaints nothing has happened. Breakfast, going by the mess staff, down into single figures for the JRM and this isn't on a small unit. I couldn't believe the change at the Marham's mess queueing out of the door not that long ago, one of the best in the RAF now it's c**p.

I thought P1 students weren't allowed to have PAYD...

They certainly aren't at a Secret Training camp in Leafy Buckinghamshire...

Evening meal in the old folks home there is only 1 core choice (3 courses 1:86) a scoff choice (main only with veg £2) and a special (main only with veg £2:75) the JRM get 2 or 3 choices but its all bland sh!te.
