Questions for TG4 Trade Sponsor

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
In all seriousness I'd ask what are the chances of ex TG11 getting onto the 4001 course, without it being a prerequisite to posting. As without 4001 you are unlikely to get any of the posts in the first place. I ask because as far as I can see TG4 is still essentially split between legacy TG3 and TG11 slots, with the newbies taking the new gucci slots. I am currently in a UK Comms Dept (ex TG11) and a lad on my TMT was working on T101 (ex TG3). I for one would like to do the 4001 course so as that it broadens my horizons and further enhances my career opportunities. One can only dream!!

On TMT I was told something along the lines that there are enough ex TG11 out there to cover the legacy TG11 posts, therefore ex TG11 wouldn't be approved on the CN4001.

I'd like to fly FJ but it won't happen.

They obviously still think that a generic ex-11 still doesn't have the aptitude for the technical course, of course we both know that there are many out there who do, there are also plenty that don't!

I can think of several of who if they were sent on the course would struggle like a WRAF on a diet..

Just because some of them can't do it (seems to be the general consensus anyway), doesn't mean they should ALL be prevented from giving it a shot. Have a trial perhaps?

Otherwise, the above view is going to hold back the future of the trade. If it has a future anyway!

There's plenty in the future for the tech side of the trade. It's the operator side that will die. If they'd given the TG11 bods a REAL assimilation course (pass the equivalent of a fitters course as a minimum) and just chopped out all the mongs then the trade would have ticked over nicely.

There would be no worrying about trying to get on a course. The TG11 that couldnt pass would then have been phased out at the end of their engagements, freeing up promotion places for the tradesmen.

Have to agree with this.

In fact, at the beginning, this is how most thought (through rumour-control) it was going to work.
However, it soon became apparent that assimilation was going to be very dumbed-down. It got to the stage where we were told that too many people are failing the Maths exam and the solution? - they scrapped the Maths exam!
This attitude followed on throughout the AT course. Too much time wasted on inappropriate/unrequired subjects; and the few useful knowledge and skills that were taught did not go into enough depth.

It turned into a joke, which is a shame as it could have been so much more.

How can you tell beforehand who would be suitable? Pre-exam for a course? What happens if you fail, should you then still be claiming high-pay band.

I know plenty of ex-11 who have no technical aptitude or interest, it is in neither their's, or the service need for them to try and attempt it.

Saying that, having been nowhere near a radar since training I doubt I'd fair any better!

Maybe...?

Maybe...?

Maybe we could give everyone aptitude tests? Oh, no.... we've done that before and it never worked....DID IT?

And there are some TG4 techie jobs out there that do not require a 4001 course. You can ask the sponsor which ones when you sit down for a coffee with him....

Well maybe the pay issue needs readdressing... There are plenty of ex-TG11s (Cpl/Sgts) in IT slots who like you say, have no interest in a more challenging job.

How about, optional rotation between Tech/IT slots on posting and a 4001 course for those that require it. If you opt-in, then you keep the pay, if not then back to low pay band?

And then perhaps we could have a separate Trade Group for both separate entities?

Here's a question:

Why did KW wait until his last week of service before he admitted that:

a. TG4 had been fcuked up.

b. We needed more techs.

?

TMG,

I believe you have answered your own question. Unless it is hypothetical!

But?

But?

?

I guess he still refused to admit his bulldozer attitude and apparent lack of ears to listen to others was seen as the main reason for failure?
