Redundancies

Since the day is getting closer I am wondering how many people have gone for it. Last time about 5 years ago everyone talked of nothing else very few eligible didn't apply. This time it seems to be very few have applied, only 1 person I work with has applied that I know of and a few have volunteered for afghan just to avoid being binned off.

So is this similar to everywhere else out there in the RAF?

I'm now at a secret transport base in Oxfordshire but up to a couple of months back I was at a secret transport base in Wiltshire, I worked on a section of 400 or so people, out of all that lot of whinging Liney scumbags I only know of myself and 2 others that have applied. Hopefully if those odds are mirrored around every Station I'm in with a bloody good chance.
Goodbye Airforce.
Goodbye Mortgage.
Hello spillage aisle 6.

I'm hearing some awesome rumours so far...

with regard to the Cpl Armourers, so far one guy has it "on good authority" that everyone who applied got it.

Someone else was told by a mate of the chief clerk that they've already selected all the quota, all medical downgrades and they've all been told....

So it sounds a lot like no-one will really know anything until the 1st!

I have applied and know of one other senior and one Cpl who have applied on my whole Sqn.

Ha, ha, and what a superstation it is!

Just think all those redundencies will finally free up some parking spaces, oh hang on a minute...........

Is anyone planning a 'Redundancy Beer Call' so that people can either celebrate or commiserate... whichever way the board decide?

HTB

Massive beercall in Beachcombers Bar at 216 on the 1st. Standard first Thursday of the month beercall date anyway but we have a charity 20 hour dj-athon going on as well. £300 in twofers, that's before anybody leaving puts money behind the bar, food is on as well, open invite to anybody at Brize, or able to get to Brize :)

Hello spillage aisle 6.

I know it's a serious subject, but that really is an amusing and philisophical statement. I hope you get what you want, and it doesn't become a prescient one.

That said, it's no consolation but right now out here, and no matter what level you operate at, everyone has the sixpence-dustbinlid bottom. You learn to live with it after a while.

Everything I hear suggests that there are going to be a few tears shed on 1 Sep as there was nowhere near enough applicants.

That said, it is quite ironic that some of the biggest moaners and whingers, whom you would expect to bite the redundancy hand off, have been very reluctant to submit their applications.

Hello spillage aisle 6.

Don't know what shift you are on but all 3 eligible heavy SNECS on ours applied for it along with 1 who wasn't eligible. We also have 2 time ex early next year so thats potentially 5 slots coming up on C (or being disestablished)

I think the real potential sickener is that the RAF don't have to accept any applicants - depending on how closely the boards have scored all the others in the field, then your "7 Points" difference between applicant and non-applicant could make all the difference, or no difference at all.

So, depending on points spread in other categories, it could be that none of the applicants get it and it's all non-applicants. Give the RAF the opportunity to displease all of the people all of the time!

I just wish they'd announced the redundancies as soon as each board had sat - so there wasn't the period of waiting, knowing the decisions have been made but having to consider two different plans for when the answers come...

I'm led to believe that the letters are arriving at Stations in the latter part of this week, so that Stn Cdrs can plan their diaries...

My application was in the Mail Out tray before the Stn Cdr had finished his speech on 'Choices, Life Changing Decisions, etc'.

As soon as i saw Atech M SNCO - No Wanted 120 i jumped at it.

Never thought i'd say it but i've lost all enjoyment in my job and can see no reason to stay in our depleted force. If could see a light at the end of the tunnel and thought things would improve i wouldn't have done it. Having Aberdeen on my doorstep helps as they're screaming out for techies.

It does sound like there's going to be alot of guys who didn't want it being given their marching orders. I did hear that approx 150 who did apply haven't got it. We shall see, fingers crossed for those that applied and those that didn't!

I have explained to my bosses that I will be in the pub from lunchtime on the 1st Sep. I will be celebrating getting my redundancy and buying cocktails for everyone or celebrating putting my notice in and getting everyone half a larger. 30k is a lot of money to miss out on!!

Agreed some of the loudest whinging naysayers have apparently done nothing. Here in my little bit of the secret Shropshire training base I know of one heavy Snec who has applied and one two banana hoping like made that he doesn't get picked as he's in the bracket but would like to stay. Roll on the 1st then people can stop the speculative "what if" chats in the tea bar and we can get back to talking about t!ts and footy.

Very much the way i'm thinking. I've had enough and i'm leaving. The extra 9 months pay would be nice but it's not a deal breaker.

I fully intend to be spending the afternoon of the 1st either celebrating a pension, gratuity and 9 months tax free pay or just the first two after i've hit the PVR button JPA.

I'm just going to wait and see what happens, if I get called in to see the det commander then I know it's a new life out of uniform for me with 12 months of doing cock all work and just job hunting. If I don't get a call into the office then it's posted when I get back. Either way I shall just take each moment as it comes. It does really get on mt tits though all the people who keep saying "you won't get made redundant", how do they know this? How I look at it is I'm top of the bracket and there will be no immediate pension to pay me, however I will be at highest payout for a Cpl. Which will cost the RAF less in the long run? CV being readied as I type.
