Hmmm, I definately can't imagine either of those types providing top cover for any RAF SAR Sea King that's on a rescue 350 miles out into the Atlantic :PDT_Xtremez_09:

Will not need it as any PFI SAR will not have that in their contract!!!!

This whole report and the snippets that we keep hearing seems to be the ramblings of a fool! new liarbour must have tapped into Dannets discussions with the Tories!

Does anyone know....

Does anyone know....

Does anyone know what Fast jet Sqns might be going any at Marham?

Wtf

Wtf

"Home of the harrier to close"
Cottesmore 3000 people employed and the chippy going to suffer as 70% RAF customers.....

All from East midlands news...

No dates/ timescales/ details....

Has anyone thought that 22 shiney new helicopters will require at least 44 pilots and probably over a hundred or so engineers plus all the add ons to operate safely. With more people PVRing than going to Odiham or Benson where will they get these numbers or are they just going to be added to one of the squadrons already operating them ?

Point well made bud. It'll be those sorry buggers at Cott and Kninloss who end up getting promoted and "offered" Chinooks or not. SAC's all replaced by AMM's now if they are promoted. Not a bad thing as I've seen good AMM's appear eager and able; but leaves all SAC(T) sweating on where they will end up if promoted.

"excuse me would you like a promotion??

Why yes, that sounds dandy

Odiham or Benson, living in crap accom as a singly, no chance of co-location if married or crap married Q's and away on det/ops?

A£$e......here's my rejection, or PVR:PDT_Xtremez_34:

Currently it is Service aircrew (RAF/RN) flying Service aircraft (again mixed RAF/RN) with Civvy Engineering and will be that way for some time to come (2012 at least). Even when SAR goes fully civvy there will still be some military aircrew flying the aircraft. Currently the MR2s provide a SAR Nimrod to cover long range jobs (even for long range Coastguard jobs I think but I'm open to correction), I can see there being some kind of requirement in the future too IMO 'cos if I was one of the boyos in the cab 300 miles out over the oggin I'd want someone keeping an eye on me.

Read post no 207.

RAF aint loosing any Tonka sqn's, just 15 crews (30 ppl). Is a Harrier sqn that'll be going, and the remaining Harrier force will move to Witts, then Cotts will close. That was from Harry Staish at my unit, down from CAS. No doubt the stoopid jorno's will go on about squadrons and masses of stations goin, but thats just b*llsh*t.

So we mothball all the MR2s and have one MR4A to cope in the meantime. Is this not going to cause skill fade amongst the kipper fleet?

This is very very depressing. I joined in 1990 - 100,000 personnel and I've forgotten just how many airfields we had at the time. Options for change reduced that to 75,000. Strategic Defence Review reduced it again to 41,000. Now we're looking at slowing recruitment and refusing extensions of service to get the figure down even more.

I used to feel like I 'belonged' to the airforce, now I feel like an employee. Like I should feel privileged to be a member of a company where there is a risk that I might loose my life through a rocket attack or something or other in some distant shore. And this is where I believe is the crux of the matter. The British Forces are NOT a company! We are not a profit making machine, but we are there for the service of the Nation. When our leaders realise this and stop treating us like we're Woolworths then maybe things will get better. But we all know they won't.

I'm not convinced that a change in government will reverse this, but it has to. We have now reduced our Armed Forces to an extent where we can not defend our own shores. I know from experience that the Russians were still sending there submarines into our waters after Options and after SDR, I don't know about recent times. But either way, we can't protect our shores from them anymore. Well done Mr Prime Minister, you and your Government are bungling fools that have managed to screw this once great nation with the best military in the world and turn us into a hodge podge outfit that can't even get uniform out of stores (yes this has happened at my base).

RIP Royal Air Force - it was nice knowing you!

Rant over - and sorry, but I feel very depressed with it all!:PDT_Xtremez_21:

Has anyone else heard rumours of a 30,000 'strong' RAF...??

Anyone fancy redundancy???

Is that how they will do it, because that huge recruitment drive over the past couple of years has produced huge amounts of new recruits, infact too many by the sounds of some of the delays at trade training.

Surely we all saw this coming, its been rumoured for ages that we would lose more manpower, they havent got any money for redundancies so they have to think of no cost ways to lose manpower. here are a few
1) Slow or stop recruitment
2) Stop signing people on
3) Use any excuse not to offer LOS 30
4) Stop/reduce continuance ( what is it 3 months notice?)
5) Change terms and conditions
6) Stop force development
7) Stop ex peds
8) Kick people out for being unfit, call it bad attitude
9) Increase fitness standards so that those old and knackered will be encouraged not to sign on.
10) increase work load reduce spares and support, encourage people to leave.
etc etc
Did I mention I am bitter, twisted, cynical, unfit and feel that I am being forced out of the service

You forgot the ever decreasing package of financial benefits that servicemen were privvy to like warrants, standard rates etc.

And married quarters that quite insanely you are not allowed to inspect before accepting and the lottery that is waiting for MHS to turn up on the first three days you wait in for them.

How does the old saying go - "If you cant take a joke, you shouldn't have joined up?"

I think we've gone beyond a joke now though.

Perhaps we should do what the LIARbour party want.....Down tools, shut up shop and go home. That might scare the crap out of "Old one eye" and the gimp :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Doubt it, he'd just have more money to buy votes with from the scum of this country.

Principles of war #2:

Maintenance of Morale

Morale is a positive state of mind derived from inspired political and military leadership, a shared sense of purpose and values, well-being, perceptions of worth and group cohesion.

As I find my own enthusiasm for the Corps waining somewhat recently for reasons many and varied (but most of which have been covered here on e-goat). Following on from this latest 'news' and picking up on Tubby's comments, I thought I'd like to conduct a quick straw poll: What is the state of the RAF's morale today?

Morale is repairable, but the contract has not been let yet to the lowest bidder.

Therefore we must manage with dwindling obsolete resources for the forseeable future ie: for ever.

Morale will then be re named, old ethos as we become subsumed into a post labour SDR.

You will then be entitled to morale for 30 days a year providing to are allowed to take them, and before they steal any off you.

Does the esteemed panel think things will change for the better under a Tory Govt?

Serious question.

Me personally, I believe their hands will be tied financially, but, I honestly believe they understand us much more than the current shower...
