Times Report - Cut to the Bone?

Does the esteemed panel think things will change for the better under a Tory Govt?

Serious question.

Me personally, I believe their hands will be tied financially, but, I honestly believe they understand us much more than the current shower...
Short answer?........No!
This Labour government (I use the term loosely) have ruined this country beyond repair! From Brown selling our bullion reserves off, for a fraction of their true worth, to Bliar sending us to war under false pretences and a pack of lies, to their social policies and immigrant policies, they have bankrupt this country both morally and financially. Any new government that is formed hasn't a hope in hell of solving the problems, in the next 5 years or beyond! I honestly, and despairingly, believe that our problems cannot be mended. Our interest alone on the national debt will be 40 billion in the next 4 years. We now have more national debt than we did after the end of world war 2 and it is not improving. Labour know that they will not win the next election so have gone out of their way to hand aover a poisoned chalice. My personal opinion is that anyone who has participated in the labour governments of the last 12 years should be put in front of a wall and shot. Along with their supporters and from the other end of the spectrum any dole scrounging, chav scum, council estate, sun reading moron!

And the rest.......

"Britain’s annual interest bill on the national debt is forecast to hit £60 billion within four years, the Chancellor is expected to admit today.
The cost of servicing the country’s £178 billion budget deficit represents just under double the annual budget for the Ministry of Defence.
The figure is roughly double the current interest charges. "

Just note, it's the INTEREST.

Don't trust a single word they say.

Nobody can comprehend just how screwed we are.

We are drifting off topic a little bit, but just who exactly do we owe money to? Who now effectively "owns" Britain PLC? It certainly isn't us any more.

Who we owe money to will directly effect our foreign policy for decades to come. How much borrowed money came from China for example. How much money came from the European continent?

Foreign policy is directly linked to defence policy. Are these cutbacks a British measure, or are they connected to Gordo's borrowing of billions? Is it possible we are appeasing someone at the moment?

Perhaps I should've scoped the question a bit better. I was really only considering the approach to defence...

As much as the Tories spout support for the forces, we should remember that they will say and promise anything to convince the floating voter to x the box on the ballot paper.

However the socialists have always seen to undermine the forces, (it goes back to the communist era).

In the long game....Cash counts.

and we are skint.

The Communists didn't do a bad job of equipping the Russian Armed Forces though - well, better than this shower!!

We had the AOC come down to Cottesmore yesterday to tell us we were closing. From what he said i get the impression Wittering doesn't have the infrastructure in place to cope with JFH moving there.

Sorry for this but I'm in a sh*t mood just now.

Not sure why some of you think one political party is any worse or any better than the other. Its probably an age thing with me but I find that given a period of time you soon find out the b*stards may have different smiles but the knife in the back of defence is still the same.
Many rumours are doing the rounds and many air ranks are making local and unofficial comments. I for one remember similar things in the 80s, then the 90s and just with now the aims of parliament were not decided just by MPs and civil servants of the treasury but were agreed first with the air staff who later brief us on their dismay at what we will now have to cope with. How many are now turning round and saying "For the security of the UK, I cannot support the proposed cuts and therefore am forced to resign."

If your staying in or just about to join up be prepared for a minimum 25% cut in manning and be sure you want a life of overseas ops with little recovery time in the UK. Just another rumour but not sure I will still be alive in 2015 to state told you so.

Personally I cant see much change if the tories get in, oh yeah Im sure they,ll make some changes in the short term, maybe cook the books a bit to save a few pounds and be able to look like the only political party who care about our forces, but actually they wil send you anywhere in the world they will feel is politically expedient, the Air Force I was in bears little resembelance to the one you guys are serving in and Im sorry it is that way but a change of govt wont make much difference, dont forget the tories got kicked out cos we wanted a fresh govt and we got it cos we voted for em

I agree with a great deal of you who are saying that one party is as bad as another. However that is no excuse for allowing the shower of sh1t with their criminal ineptitude that currently pose as our government another turn in office! This country is in desperate need of a change in government. Even the most ardent Labour supporter cannot deny that. A vote for one of the fringe parties is a waste as they will not gain enough votes to seriously challenge the major parties. So what do we, in the armed forces do? Refuse to vote? If you refuse to vote then you can have no complaints about who wins a general election as you have done nothing about your gripes. Vote Labour and put up with being financially raped for the next 5 years? Vote Tory and be financially raped for the next 5 years, but watch the rest of the country struggle along with us as they try to repair the collossal damage Labour have done? Vote LibDem and be financially raped for the next 5 years whilst watching the tree hugging lunacy become worse? Vote for fringe parties allowing a hung parliament where all you will see is the major parties b1tching and fighting and nothing getting done as we are financially raped ?
It truly is in the hands of the electorate, as it should be. The simple fact is we in the armed forces are on a hiding to nothing. The country is potless, the general public want money spent on education, NHS and the police. We will come a very distant 4th place in ANY governments list of priorities.

Sadly, except in time of War, the military has always been at the bottom of the visible pile (we won't mention money on wasted research products).

But I think that the public are getting (or ARE) serious peeved with this woeful government who's education policy has not worked. We got kids leaving school who are the product of Bliar's mantra and they are just as 'dim' as their forbears.

4th??? What about foreign aid hasn't cameroon said he'd ring fence that pot as well... because that's important isn't it?

The numbers for 2500 being lost across the three services has been put on paper. 650 army, 1500 raf, 350 navy.

1500 RAF ? so why are they actively recruiting auxilliries for instance if 1500 are losing there jobs ?

Oggies are cheaper?

Depends what trades the chopped people are...we are still short in delective areas...
