Welcome To Swinderby

Jock Meston was the Cpl and Sgt Boyden was the scouser, they were my DI's on my intake.

Sgt Boyd you mean ? :)

He was a Cpl when I went through in November 1986. A Bootle lad who lived round the corner from my mam and dad.

Regan, now he was a nasty bit of work until the day you passed out when he sat us all down and said how proud he was of us and that if he ever met us out in the real RAF he would let US buy him a pint.

Great times.

18 Flight RAF Swinderby started 13th December 1977 passed out 1st February 1978.

Only one DI on the photo, Sgt Sweet, I believe he ended up as a SWO somewhere before he retired. The other DI was Sgt Evans.

I'm the handsome chap at the back in the (viewer's) left hand corner.

That's the same dates as me, The bloke who won most improved for PT was an ex Wales 10,000 Mtr champion and the lad who won most improved for GDT an ex pongo. Never could work out how they'd improved though !

Must have been the year for Ex Wales runners to join up, We had an Ex Wales Cross country runner on our intake, I beat him on the Aerorun by a couple of seconds and he did the same to me on the cross country.

The V neck jumpers worn in the orginal posts pictures gives it all away..... sprogs :)

we didn't have jumpers, v neck or round neck just pullovers to wear under our battledress:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Swinders Dec 79, 16 Flt, red terry towel, was in one of the new blocks top floor (carpets) had running battles with 15 & 14 Flt (helmets in pillows) knocking the sh1t out of each other on the stairs.

MFT at North Luff, broke a Rocks finger with a 2 by 4 when building a sanger with sandbags. Hit it here he says....... :PDT_Xtremez_42:AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH YOU FU AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH OW OW OW AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHH YOUFECKINGSTUPIDNUMBCNUTFECKINGBARSTEWARD, YOUMOTHERFECKINGTWITINGCNUT, needless to say I was rather shocked by the language??.

DI was SGT St--l, we had two strippers for our leaving do, the next day SGT St--l came in sporting a rather tasty black eye, rumour had it that his wife found out and battered the sh1t out of him:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Met him again 8 years later when I was on a short det to Colchester, he was an MPSC then.:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Just found this in my locker of admin crap circa1990, sorry its only 18 years old I need to get some time in!

It was 17 Flt nov 1990 till Jan 1991 for me, can not believe we got an amazing £92.33 a week paid every fortnight! seemed alot at the time! we had Sgt Ellis and Cpl "Skippy" Cole, Berlin take my breath away was on all the time in the gadaffi, watching the gulf war and having pink jets on every flypast till ours, 4 poxy buldogs neally snapped my arm off waiting for them to fly over, took about 5 mins! The old SLR weighed about 3 ton and ice cold!

We had a Sgt Taff Jones on our intake (10Flt Dec 90-Jan91)no Cpl for some reason. He was a brilliant bloke we were his last ever intake before his de-mob. Laid back most of the time but as most DI's a right b*stard when he needed to be.

I seem to remember wearing a t-shirt that said

'Sgt Jones had her, then 10 flt broke her in"

would have been about Dec '89

Seem to remember him crying after pass-out as well!

Not sure if this has been posted/asked before but the following little ditty came into my head from 32 years ago - anyone else remember it?

Welcome to RAF Swinderby
The Organisation's a fckuing disgrace
With corporals and sergeants and flight sergeants too
All fckuing around with fcuk all to do

They stand at the front and they scream and they shout
They shout about things they know fcuk all about
For all as their worth they might as well be
Shovelling sh1t on the Isle of Capri!

Having now been a cpl, sgt and FS all I can say is - Where do I get my shovel from!

must share this with you at a large family gathering for my dotty mothers birthday where the guests included future mrs blakey and associated inlaws, long time friends and friends from work her answer to the question what are some of your happiest memories? she told the assembled crowd and the following silence that it was MY COMING OUT PARTY quickly but not quickly enough i corrected her telling them she meant my passing out parade, but 6 years later it still gets mentioned

A very cold Feb 1984 for me. Fookin hated every minute of my time at Swinderby, but looking back on it over the years, I wouldn't have changed a thing !
