RAF Locking, with 105 others, 9.9.71, 224 Entry.

How many times did I go there ? Lost count......

Sgt Greaney, Cpl Fieldhouse - who needed to put jam on his shoes and invite his trousers down for tea.

Swinderlitz, Oct - Nov '79.

About the last course to be accommodated in the old black wooden huts on the right as you entered the domestic site. :S

Swinderby Jul '91 dammned hot had a two week break in the middle which was good at the time but then straight into MFT first day back.

5 years at odiham where they banned a proposal to build a fish and chip shop as it bring down the name of the village????

.....however, Hereford was probably my spiritual home awesome place

I still have my original brass belt buckle. None of this stay-bright crap.

Swinderby 3 Flt April 1993.

I'm getting on as well now.

Studley

They still issued brass belt buckles in '93?? I thought they got rid of all the brass before I left in '75. Come to think on it we lost the belts from our best blues a while before I got out, so no belts or buckles at all.

Not belts for No1's, but trouser belt buckles.

For some reason I didn't think they were brass buckles on those belts. I thought they were painted, I can't ever remember having to polish one.

It was around '02 ish when they got rid of the brass ones, as stores phased them out so it could have been sooner than that.

I joined in '00 and have never had to polish a belt buckle (exception being the white webbing...)

i got one thrown over the counter at me new years day 82,and despite being winter and woolly pullys the brass had to gleam, DI had a habit off lifting jumpers to check,at least all we had to worry about was a jumper lifter and not a shirt lifter!

Brass belt buckle for me in 84. If you put it on whilst the belt was wet the inside part made the belt go green in colour, much to every ones consternation! Surely you must remember buying Duraglit from the NAAFI?

Who doesn't.....!!!! and its old friend Brasso..... between the two of them they wore down my cap badge....... I can remember I somehow ended up with a Kings Crown cap badge, although I didn't join until '64.

yep,the joy of trying to work out if it was best to boot polish your haversack pt bag and then duraglit the brass bits or the other way round, saving enough duraglit for the window brasses and the shiney bits of the fire extingusher,of course!
