Old and Bold (or is that Bald?)...

Old and Bold (or is that Bald?)...

Ah, yes Swinderbubble...

Mar 85, 4 Flt. Sgt Mick C. and Cpl Sean "What a barsteward" A.

Then Locking... RIP.

...but spiritual home must be the forested boggy mass in Cumbria... or is it Northumbria... or is it both... or is it Scotland!

Old and senile might be a better tagline!

Brampton closing! When is that due to happen? My first posting :S

The closure of Brampton is tied to the new Int HQ being built at Wyton.......couple of years yet, but she is definitely going...................v sad, I love Brampton as a site.

It's Official I am now feeling my age after reading through this post.

Swinderby Oct 1978 2 Sqn 14 Flt

Sgt Cook & Cpl Tucker were the DIs.

Held at Binbrook after passing out before going to Shawbury.

Spiritual home has to be Gutersloh during the Mighty RAFG days.

I am now going straight to supply to get my Zimmer frame and comfy slippers.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Saints -in the summer of 83'.

Lay against a south facing blister hangar getting rays for half the day, occassionally doing a bit of robbing work on a frame destined for the knackers yard anyway (Buccs), in cap sleeved overalls, knocking off with the civs at 4 and never in a million years coming close to wearing anything rubber, green or metal.

Magic seaside days.

Swinderby, 8 Flt, Feb 1976! Pontious had just retired, plastic earplugs for the range and mouldy bread in the Mess. What ever happened to Cpl Les Patterson? :PDT_Xtremez_26:

2 Squadron 8Flt Dec 1988 till i got medically back flighted can't remember who i finally passed out with. Think the Sgt was Guthrie

Hereford, Sep-Oct 90. Young Thick Stupid.

GDT in the wooden huts, get a wrong answer (or every 5 mins) was followed with "Figure of 8..........GO!"

34 Years ago today, arrived at Swinderby for my 6 weeks square bashing.

I arrived 2 weeks before you and was backflighted for 2 weeks (Glandular Fever) from 3 Flt to 17. We passed out on 28 April 76 - my 17th birthday!

Halton 5 flt 02 Oct 02. Flt staff were ok most of the time, hardly saw one of the Cpl's as he spent most of the time in a green goddess! heard the OiC was demoted afterwards cos of some of the comments he came out with. Like telling a colour blind person that he didnt think they let disabled people join up!

8 Flt '85. We even had the luxury of AOC's while I was there. You just would not believe the ammount of polishing we had to do, or what we had to polish/paint.

We also had the joy of watching Live Aid in the newcommers club. Ahh! happy days.

3 then 5 flt. RAF Halton sep-nov 1998. Reflighted for not calling an ambulance in the first aid exam. 20 mins of CPR later and the instructor decided to let me know to move rooms.

Corporal Brents, Barmy Army.

Feck me! I'm getting old. I've been longer on leave than some of these guys have done time in!

I agree with the above! Anyway my spiritual home has to be Odiham. Home of the battlefield helicopter!

On another point I read about Ma'am Postlethwaite when she was at Swinderby. Never knew her then but a lot of airmen did when she was OC GD at Odiham. I shall never forget one memorable night in the sports club with an SAC professing his undying love for her.... D'oh.

Married a Tornado Nav I seem to recall.

I was at Swinditz mar 92 on 5 flt. Flight Staff were Sgt. Boyd (Growly old scouser) Cpl. Studd (harsh...but fair :-)) and cpl. H**bs (utter idiot).

MFT at Luffers and then back to Luffers after pass out for trade training.

Spiritual home has to be Digby really though....1st operational unit and it was as if they had elastic on you.... you only ever escaped from Digby for a short while before you found yourself back there. :-)

Swinders Nov 82 but I think of Credenhill, Hereford as my spiritual home. I was at Credenhill for my trade training and a myriad of courses until Supply training was sent to Halton.
