Nearly 7 years and not 1 yet :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Only done thw sandy stuff once, although I'm going this year, and when I did I got Medevac'd after less than 3 weeks after a Dog F**Ker broke my arm :PDT_Xtremez_09:

I should have four but as you have to apply for them with copies of your log book and other evidence then I am not bothering.
I have earned them but unless they dish em out then they can bloody keep em
, it's a disgrace! having to apply for you own medals!!!!!!

GSM (NI)
Kosovo
Former Yugoslavia
Rwanda
ACSM
Jubilee
Afghanistan
and a QCB

Not bad for 14, almost 15 years.

I got one, the nice shiny Telic one. Suppose I should go and get some time in... On another point, anyone know how William and Harry got the Golden Jubilee medal when my F1250 has been in the military longer?

It's cr@p isn't it. All the Royal household got them. Apparently they have been in the service of HM since the day they were born, so qualified. It's little things like that which undermine the (already shaky) position of the Royal family.

I think you might regret that in later years. My old man does.

LSGCM (after appeal! How sad am I?)

Sierra Leone

Afghanistan with bar

Iraq 2003 with bar

NATO Balkans

QGJM with added chocolate

And I have 5 of them godawful ISAF medals which I was told I had to take every time it was issued, even though I tired of telling them I already had one of the scabby blighters!

sorry to ask a daft question but, what do you mean "with bar"

Bars are extra bits of tin which go onto the medal ribbon. You get a rosette for the ribbon which is on your jacket with no medals on.

For the Afghan medal the bar says Afghanistan on. You had to be there on the ground before Dec 2001 I think to get that. For the Iraq medal you had to be inside Iraq between the start of the bombing to the 23rd of March? I would have to go and find the medals as the bar has got the exact dates on it.

Cheers fella. I have both of those with the bars. I misunderstood you thats all.

I always thought that the bar was only mentioned if you got it twice e.g.
DSO DFC and bar. Meaning 2 DFC's. Sorry again.

Got 4 real ones and the 2 handouts from the Saudi's/Kuwaiti's for GW1.

Would've got the NI one too but got sent to Swanton Morley at the last minute on a poxy rotortune course and missed out.

Apologies Wing Boy. You are in fact correct about the bar being awarded for re-awarding. I meant Clasp.

It was late and I was 'socially confused' on the black beer of megastars.

Sorry Mate!

A very humble Mrs Pulfrew's Little Boy

Aye you can wear ones from other nations on mess dress, I got minatures from the BX on my last trip to Sig, you can get them on yank ebay if you are that way inclined.
Well, I've just found this in AP1358, which rather gives the lie to your assertion:

Miniature Orders, Decorations and Medals
0854. Occasions for Wear. Miniature badges or orders, decorations and medals are normally reserved for evening functions and are worn
with No 5, 5A, 5B and 8 SD uniforms (Mess Dresses). Foreign awards are subject to the same rules for full size versions at Para 0818.

And Para 0818 says that if the Sovereign has not given permission for foreign awards to be worn then you are not to do it.

For myself I have been awarded:

NATO Medal (Former Yugoslavia)
General Service Medal 1962 (Air Operations Iraq)
Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal
Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

Supposedly it arrives at your unit a few weeks after you get home or is issued by admin in theatre, however, never got mine, not bothered as you can't wear it on your No1's anyway!

Managed 4 in 14 years - not bad for a Shiny!

UNPROFOR - Sarajevo in 1995 (Fact Hunter - when were you there?)
Air Ops Iraq
Chocolate medal
Iraq

LSGCM is a bit ropey (got caught out as a LAC - not sure if I'll get it)

No doubt there'll be more over the next few years.

All have been court mounted from a cracking military tailors in Dorset - £4 per gong. Looks so much better court-mounted, instead of having them clanking away.

As an aside, when I was in the hot and sandy plsce, I remember seeing a letter from Cpl X from AUD who wrote into the RAF News whinging that he wasn't eligible for a gong. I wrote back saying that if that chopper wanted a gong, I would quite happily swap my medal with him for the opportunity to get out of there, and if he was that desperate for a gong, all he needed to do was get in touch. Sadly they never printed it.
