Good News for most, CAS has given an extra five days Stand-down over the Christmas period for all in the RAF for the work over RAF100. This is Fabulous and deserved. His letter then went on to say that he hoped RAF Disapora personnel that are managed outside AIR (DE&s etc) would get the same benefits. As many personnel had contributed to RAF100. It appears that this will not be the case for DE&S Pers, and whilst only 5 days it yet another little kick in the teeth for those who serve as most of us were sent to DE&S by AIR to do a job. Rant over, but if they only gave it to those within a particular part of the Sexuality spectrum imagine the screams as opposed to this one whimper.....eyes now dried & back in box.
Seems we've given up and are now just recruiting more officers than airman. (I do actually understand that there are fewer officer courses than airman courses). How will this pan out in future? Do they hold back airman graduations to align the parades? https://www.forces.net/news/first-ever-joint-graduation-raf-cranwell-personnel
Those who worked on Sea kings may find this of great interest. "Military staff who worked on Sea King helicopters are being warned they may have been exposed to asbestos. The Ministry of Defence is urgently removing parts suspected of containing the harmful material from its aircraft, which have been in service since 1969." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6021397/ew-Armed-Forces-chief-vows-stamp-bogus-claims-against-Northern-Ireland-veterans.html We shall see how far his stance takes him but at least someone seems to care about the events military personnel have been involved in earlier times. "General Sir Nick Carter said 'vexatious claims' over decades-old deaths of IRA suspects at the hands of soldiers during the Troubles risks undermining Britain's fighting spirit now, adding: 'That will not happen on my watch.'"
https://www.raf.mod.uk/news/articles/queens-birthday-honours-list-2018/ Well done to all concerned. I must be officially a KOS because I don't recognise a single name on there this year! However, I was amused to see that RAF Wittering P1 have received a "Team Commendation" - Most fizzes? Most Fitness Test MAA's issued? I also noted that the AOC's Commendations - once a Commissioned-free zone (which was unfair IMHO) - now contains a significant % of commissioned types.
Correct me if I’m wrong but surely this was brought in some time ago (compulsory D&I objectives on SJARs and OJARs) nothing really to do with new CDS. If he was asked the question about inclusivity what’s he supposed to say “nah, we’ll not bother with it when I’m in charge”? It’ll be business as usual I’d imagine. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5590377/Armed-Forces-head-threatens-block-promotions-unless-officers-improve-inclusivity.html#readerCommentsCommand-message-field Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Interesting Article on the Thin Pinstriped Line yesterday: https://thinpinstripedline.blogspot.com/2018/04/to-infinity-and-beyond-tornado-and-raf.html Signs off.... "For Humphrey the RAF remains a Service that epitomises what it means to be in the military. Good humoured people working long hours as part of a close knit team and going beyond the ordinary to help others. They are a magnificent bunch, even if they do wear the most awful polyester uniforms at times, and their first century is a story of success, courage and overcoming the odds to make the UK and her allies safe. Long may they continue! " https://thinpinstripedline.blogspot.co.uk/
