To add to the qualification debate...

I joined in 1990 as a A Mech A with one GCSE in maths, there was no requirement to have any GCSE's or O Levels as long as you passed the aptitude test. For what it's worth I am now a Sgt and have overtaken many who joined as DE's or Appo's with many GCSE's etc. Having qualifications doesn't mean a lot in the real world, however it is a way of filtering at the recruitment stage.

On to AIP's, TG17 at fault all the way... Again!

These AIP's..can you use an A and a B (A as an SAC and B as a Cpl or say an A as an SAC and then C as a Sgt) or does it have to be an A, B or C with a D ie does your second AIP always have to be the D????? Confused I is!

That's the way it was introduced.
1 rank based
then an extra (the D)
The level has to be right though.
So can put an A and D in as an SAC if you want.

I'm sure I had to have English and Maths to join and got some Q to show I had them making me suitable for promotion.

I joined in 1993 with only Maths at grade C or higher. Like already mentioned the aptitude results counted if you didnt have the relevant GCSE's.

On the topic though, i put in a Q-AIP-D in December 2002 so does this mean Im going to be scrutinised?

They can scrutinise all they want. If it is true, 2006 will be the cut off date assuming they notify you soon.

How long have you been a Sgt?, the last Appo Entry joined in 1990 and those still in are either commissioned, Chiefs, GE's or had their Sgt for 5 years or more. On what are you basing that you have overtaken them?

Serious question.

Most Mech D.E's from 1990 are now Chiefs or have been Sgt's for 5 years or more.

I was being polite with the 5 years as 1990 Appo's were Cpl by '94. What I want him to quantify is how as a Sgt he believes he has "overtaken many who joined as DE's and Appo's" when quite frankly he is talking out of his hoop...

Hope this helps ;)

Sorry to drag this back on topic but I was chatting to someone from 90SU about this earlier in the week and I find the whole situation appauling. Surely the way to approach this is as one combined service complaint or a coordinated discussion with the service ombudsman.

Whilst not the place to start trade bashing, this has been a systematic failure that must have been excascerbated by a poorly worded JSP. Having looked at the JSP as part of a previous job it is badly written for some trades, however this does not excuse HR peeps that have approved the applications.

Is there a POC at manning we can contact to find out whats going on? I approached my admin but because they are Army they have no idea what i'm an about.

So what is the next step with this and when will the affected people be notified?

All I can say is that we (HR) have a list of some 350 people on it and we are checking through the ones at our Unit. Replies have to be back by 4 May. My Unit only has a few to check but we have had to forward queries to the TS.

Awaiting some more direction as I have posed a few questions. If I get any answers I will post further.

Try again...
