Any one fancy a new no fly zone det to Aki?

BBC saying if the UN vote yes to the no fly zone over Lybia (in the next hr or so) then RAF Jets could be in action over the contry tomorrow!!!!!!

I know were good but unless theres a hidden sqn or two out there then I very much doubt it!!!!!

SDSR (didnt see this comming did yah!)

Why not make use of RAF Gibraltar? Probably close enough without having to drag the Navy into it - suppose the runway length needed will depend what airframe they send up, and Gib's got a bloody short runway! Could do with a Harrier or two about now...

Gib is too far away really. Coupled with the fact the locals and the Spanish would get very upset at constant mil activity on the airfield. For starters, the runway cuts straight across Winston Churchill Ave almost cutting the residents off from the rest of Europe when it's busy!

A little nugget from an Italian newspaper. It seems that Gioia has typhoons based there. It also operated Tornados as well and has been asked, along with other Italian bases for support.

All open source.

It does look like its pasta and red wine. This from the BBC news feed.

1455:
Italy - Libya's former colonial ruler and key trading partner - will make its military bases available to those operating the no-fly zone and will take an active role in any operations against Gaddafi, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini says. Italy is also closing its embassy in Tripoli, he adds.

It does seem quite feasable. Scicily anyone?

Well this is the start of a big messy war in my opinion, we are dealing with somebody who knows the resolution is shaky but as nobody has a plan if gaddafi backs down then they are eventually going to have to go in and capture him and that will mean a war, the Arabs wont be happy and it will all go wrong. The UK needs that oil as a lot of UK investment is there hence why Eton boy is so determined to have his war.

Manpower is being requested everywhere right now and there is not enough to pass around lol, Prison guard training starts April first week btw:PDT_Xtremez_14:

BB, They don't have the remit to go in on the ground. Capturing Gadaffi will be left to the Libyan people.

seems like the perfect opportunity for us to showcase what we can do, it's what we joined up for, it's what we train for, lets get on and do it

.................and prove to Cameron that he can keep on cutting the british forces and still get the job done. He's just chopped the Tornado force and yet we can still generate enough "extra" frames for a new conflict. :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Try the same thing when the cuts have been fully implemented and after the redundees have gone - no Nimrod, no Sentinel, no Tornados and no HMS Cumberland....might have been a different story. They are just lucky that this has happened now at the announcement stage; if this doesn't show them that you can't keep cutting critical assets then absolutely nothing else will.

Mind you, no matter what the strain it will put on us... it will be nice to do something where the other two services can take a back seat!

The Navy have their ships in the area so that they can give some support and the Brown jobs are going to be limited in what services they can provide... therefore a brilliant opportunity to show what an AIR FORCE can do and why we need the 'expensive equipment' that will be used!

Fingers crossed that we don't fcuk something up in the process!:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Indeed. It maybe a little blessing to show him that we NEED these assets and the manpower that we have.

Grumps I am looking post resolution, you know the plan they have afterwards that apparently they dont seem to have yet.

Gaddafi today called a ceasfire so with nothing flying but its apparent already that the waiting around has been too long and what left of the rebels cannot stand up to Gaddafi and his troops. The Coalition and West says Gadaffi will have to pay for the attrocities he has commited against his own people.
The Coalition either arms the militia to stand up against him again which will take a lot of time, or the Coalition looks stupid by letting Gaddafi get away with it. I cant see Gaddafi surrendering himself to the Coalition so an invasion to remove him seems the only way forward now.

Thats just my view though , luckily I dont have to face the many decisions that will no doubt unfold.

With the rest of theMiddle east getting techy now its going to be a busy year for Sky News

Fair do's mate, but the rebels seemed to be doing a good job untill the tanks and air strikes pilled into them. Hopefully the GR4's will take out the heavy armour, the Teabags keep the migs on the ground and the rebels can get on with dragging Gadaffi duck into the street and a public hanging may take place. I just hope they get his sons as well. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Cameron is D state for a lot of this stuff at the moment, thanks to the commitments he has made on the Armed Forces behalf.

It's tragic that even on the BBC website it mentions aircraft that are going to deploy are due to be scrapped.
