Do you mean the has-been half of the comedy duo? Or was it a real question?

From left to right was Bombhead SAC, Sooty CPL and Fairy CPL.

Gen question, Tommy was Sooty me thinks or could have been rigger although was a def scouser!!!, was at Finnigley last time i heard before it became an airport.

Wish we still did field deployments on the Leaping Heaps....different world!

Yep, You were depressed a few weeks before the deployment, but once out there you managed to have a laugh anyway.

R.i.p. XV179

R.i.p. XV179

Re XV179, here are a couple of shots of Ascension taken in May '82 from the top hatch of 179. XV200, the first of the probed Hercs to do a 24hr sortie there and back, and a general view of the pan towards the Victor parking area, 9 in view, plus one of the Nimrods. We had two probed aircraft doing one Task Force sortie a day for the best part of two months. The only time they didn't fly was when a 'Black Buck' mission flew taking all the tankers, and when 200 had a fuel tank snag and some plonker back at base forgot to put the test leads in the test set lid when it was sent out on the next Herc coming south, so we missed one. Otherwise it would've been a 100% record.
I've got some more shots from that time which I'll dig out and post later. Apologies for the poor quality but it was a little pocket camera and the pics are 25 yrs old.
