We should not back down at all, If we do it will be like revisiting the 1970's on the international stage when the UK was seen as a soft touch.

It took the Falklands War for that to be reversed and install a bit of pride back into the nation.
 
This is the wrong attitude to have, i know this, but its what i feel in my gut...

Why are we not rounding up every man and his dog and stationing our forces off the border of Iran with a clear message that no one takes our lads (and lass).

Id like to think that if i ever got captured, the UK government would do everything in its power to get me back. No option disregarded, no cost saving measures and no "long term plan".

We need actions not words.
 
Two reasons I can think of we're not massing on the borders of Iran.

1) We haven't got the resources

and

2) If we did that the prisoners would be executed before we even got across the border which would defeat the point really.

I think the whole idea of border massing is a non-event. It will never happen. Iran will release the captured but will exhaust all diplomatic channels before they do, it's the usual lets get Theran in the limelight for a month or so then give them back.

The point made on this post was to high light the fact that we did not back down during the Falklands.

I am not saying we 'invade' Iran or mass troops on the borders, but carry on the line taken, that is they did not enter Iranian Waters.
 
i dont think we are backing dwn. the message has been the same throughout. it would not be wise to start a war with iran surely everyone knows that?!
we will come out the winners in the end.
 
another journo cnut, who knows nothing about the situation. that marine the other nite said 'this is aledgedly where we were picked up' haha keep it up! yes im sure the us marines would of put up a fight but one they would of been in something alot bigger than a bath tub, and would have had more guns. but they still would of ended up dead!!!! our guys are still alive because they were intelligent enough to no it was certain death and possibly the start of world war 3. i for one given an even fighting ground would put our lots up against the usmc and i no who would win. and semper fcukin fi wouldnt get a look in.

our septic chums need to read a book called WAR by a well known author called GREAT BRITIAN as we have managed to win one or a hundred on our own with out assistance form other countries. hell they couldnt even win a war against themselves that ended up pretty much as a draw. and they bang on about that something cronic!!

Don't forget about the American War of Independence - British colonists fighting a German King and his Army. Actually, what really gets them riled is when you tell them we let them win in 1776 because India was giving us some real trouble at the time and since India was more valuable to us . . .

I don't give a damn what some 2-bit Yankee journo has to say. Anyone who has watched/listened to AFN wherever they are around the world knows the Spams get force-fed tons of 'feel good' propaganda. We used to get "one minute of great American history" 3 or 4 times an hour. I used to say it's because that's all the history they had.

There's a memorial to the WWII dead at the museum down the road from where I'm working (in the US) and as touching and poignant as it is, somebody really should have advised them that WWII actually started in 1939 not 1942 as the memorial states. Seeing how Americans see the rest of the world from within their borders is a remarkably scary experience.

Another thing on that yank journo saying that we spoke to soon, the worlds greatest regiment the22nd, as reports say are trained to hold out for 24hrs and then supply info in dribs and drabs from cover stories,mild truth the last time i looked the navy and marines as good as they are aint the SAS!

The Iranian President has just held a news conference.

Medals to senior Iranian military officers for their part in arresting the naval personel were awarded.

He has also said he is " saddened " that Britian violated Iranian waters & the UK Government did not disclose the truth to the British people. The President has also said he will leave the judgement in the sailor case to world opinion.

Iran has said it has pardoned and will free the sailors as a gift to Britian.

He can say what he wants as far as I'm concerned, providing the lads and lass are released quickly and are unharmed.
 
Still a farce in my opinion. Glad they are being released, but as a 'gift'? He's having a laugh. Maybe HMS Cornwall should, next time, be within firing range of it's boarding parties
