I'm beginning to wonder if it is worth swallowing our pride in this case, if it means we get our people back. There will be reason enough to go back to Iran in the future when we have lessened our other commitments and have the resources to do so.

I've a feeling I won't need to volunteer. I only got out of going to Iraq with the first wave because of the fire strikes. 2 fairly cushy OOAs in my career, I think I'm due some payback!

The Iranians have made a violent protest outside the British Embassy in Teheran. Anyone fancy returning the compliment or are we too civilised?

No doubt there is an increased S016 presence in the Prince's Gate area, so it may be difficult getting near it!.

Could actually be the only way forward!

Then draw a fnucking big line in the sand (and sea) and say "you cross this line, you die!". Protect our boarding parties properly,

Post partly removed simply for one reason. Please do not start to bring religious holy sites into the context it was brought into in this post. If you wish to do so, please take it out of public view. I understand your views but they can be worded without insulting a particular religion.

I totally agree dude, get our folks back now. Then tell the Iranians that any further incidences will be met with extreme force. :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I heard somewhere over the weekend that this stretch of water is in dispute anyway. Apparently Iran won it in their war with Iraq then Saddam changed his mind and claimed it back.

the line seperating iraqand irans territorial waters is disputed.
but we use the line the iranians claim to be the correct one. ie further west. and we offset ourselves from that as well to give room for error etc

What will it achieve if the UK back down? They can't do any harm to the guys they have captured.

Why let the Iranians get away with it? It was kidnap at the end of the day

we can't back down. we will look weak in the international community and be an easy target for any two-bit terrorist organisation.

They apparently haven't harmed anyone so far, and I sincerely hope and believe it will stay that way. That doesn't mean that they can't, it just means I believe they won't. How long are we prepared to take the risk? What happens if they go on trial? Aside from the fact it would be a kangaroo court, does anyone have any idea what the punishment is for trespass, or whatever charge they may eventually face? They certainly won't get an ASBO.

As most might guess i'm no politician but I think we already look so weak......even the french will be thinking they could have a go and win....we have no one in charge with any authority or whom anyone respects !!

Crack on..............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

Castrated by the anti-war brigade... I always said pacifism, although a noble ideal is ultimately dangerous in todays world. I know that statement will inflame the liberals...!

Iranian Situation
