A question or two please.

Machine 2 now runs and I've put Folding on it. I assume this software works in the same way as SETI (BOINC)?

I don't get the idea of "teams". Has this charitable endeavour turned into a competitive sport ?

Toodle Pip

Possibly only in our own minds as being service orientated we are naturally competitive...But your right in the fact that it's charitable and a good thing to do wether it's a race or not...

Yes, it has. At some point, the guys who run it noticed that some people were waving their e-willies over how fast their PC can fold which annoyed other geeks who then tried to fold more, and so on.

Introducing the league table meant that all e-willies were on display and the race began in earnest. Teams were the clever bit because then people were not only racing to fold fastest, but also recruiting other folders (hence this thread).

Healthy competition will pretty much always speed progress and they tapped it perfectly.

"Folding" Settings ?

"Folding" Settings ?

It's on, it works but I don't know how to adjust the various settings that I saw vanish into the screen when I first set it up.

Is there some way to 'tune' the thing so I get good WU rate when I'm not using the PC for my own selfish purposes please?

Lastly, I hope I did right putting the Goat's Team number on my installation?

Toodle Pip.

To sort out the settings look for the little red flower/cog in your system tray. Try right clicking the icon and the settings should be there.

Thanks for joining the e-goat team and helping folding@home.

This is along the same lines as what SETI (search for extraterrestial intelligence) did a few years back (not sure if its still running), will download later and get it running mate.

SETI is alive and well and has been running on my PC for over a year lately (although I have done it before on an old DOS machine).
I've put folding on a second machine and left it to get on with it.

Is there a website where I can get some info please ?.
OR
Is it possible to run a work unit and put the results on a disk, bring it to another computer and upload it?.

I have a 'spare' computer at my ATC, but it is not connected to the 'net.
My own machine at home is, so can I send the saved file from the ATC machine and send it on?

Toodle Pip

Here you go Ex-Bay http://folding.stanford.edu/

This is possibly the best thing you could be doing with the spare capacity on your computer. I've been running it now since we started, I've never had any problems with it, its never slowed my PC down or caused it to crash and I've never had any malware or virus attacks because of it.

Well done to us, and slowly climbing up the score board. Keep going at this rate and we should be in the top 1500.

And for those who haven't joined yet..........why not? help us help the world. A few minutes of your time and let your PC do the rest.

Just in case I try it. . .
If I quit SETI, how do I get Folding working on both my machines. Each as internet access via an internal Cat5 cable and a router.

Incidentally, trying to persuade the CO of my local ATC has not met with much success. And there's no methods of dumping the results to a floppy disk and wanging the file out with my regular stuff at home.

I reckon this is a good thing waiting to happen! (Used to be able to do it with SETI under DOS).

Because its a misnomer, it should be "Supercomputer where someone else pays the bill". Besides that, it used to spawn two processes on my machine; totally hogging resources. Godda wonder why it didnt (does it yet?) come with an uninstaller.

Bah humbug ::P:

In a word, no. It needs the internet to download and send the completed files.

I take it your using the console version? What you need to do is kill the process in windows (FAH504-Console.exe & FAHCorexx.exe) then re run the config setup from either command prompt or the run option in the start menu.
Code:
c:\path\to\fahdirectory\FAH504-Console.exe -config
That'll ask you again the questions you first tapped out.

Tips though:-

  • Team number is 54234
  • For IE settings, tap in NO if you have IE7. An inbuilt security change to IE7 will stop any units transferring.
  • Units without deadlines, tap in no. There are no units without deadlines so you'll be trying to connect to a dead server.

Hope this helps

Finally got it working on Linux, and with a neat little display on the desktop ::D:

Is it possible?

Is it possible?

To run TWO PCs on F@H ?.
I have two on a wired network (connected via a Router). One's already running FaH and I've nearly finished 100000 units of SETI on the other. When that finishes, I'd like to put it to FaH.

Both machines run WinXP and have the Mozilla browser.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just install F@H onto the computer (the one without it at present)....set up the same as the other (use same name and team number).....bobs your uncle.

Thats all I've done...only difference is i'm on wireless network so should be too different.

Fold on................:PDT_Xtremez_09:

I'm getting "Core Download Errors- waiting before retry"

Any clues?

I am running the 5.03 version graphical display.
It used to work fine but now it doesnt!

I'm away from the normal pooter but in the settings if you have IE 7 installed, untick "Use IE settings" and also do not tick the one if you have a dodgy clock and there was another one about deadlineless units for slow computers. All unticked and it should be ok.

Cheers mate, I just uninstalled it though!
Gonna install again and start from afresh.

I've reinstalled it now and its working fine even with its default of IE7 being ticked.:PDT_Xtremez_30:
