Dear Mr Wright

The following EDM 288 has been tabled in the House of Commons. I believe our armed forces should be given all the support they require for their civilian transition, and housing is a fundamental requirement. I hope you will show your support by signing EDM 288.

Yours sincerely

Got mine

Thank you for writing to me about EDM 288. I'm happy to sign this EDM,
which draws attention to the problems that former servicemen and women
have in securing housing when they return to civilian life.

At a time when some of our Armed Forces are struggling in cramped and
decaying living quarters in barracks, I believe that our soldiers and
their families deserve so much better. My party has pledged that we will
put together a specific manifesto explaining how a future Conservative
Government will help and assist the families of our Armed Forces.

My colleague Liam Fox, the Shadow Defence Secretary, has said that:

'There is an unspoken understanding that when we send people out to
fight and potentially die in our name, that our part of the bargain is
to make sure that they and their families are properly looked after.

If they're not getting the appropriate accommodation, that's up to the
standards that they believe are adequate, they believe that contract has
been broken, and are more likely to leave the Armed Forces.'

I think he's right.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mrs XXXXXXX

Thank you for your email to me 27 January.

I have now reviewed the content of EDN 288 tabled by my colleague Nadine Dorres Housing Provision for Former Members of the UK Armed Forces and have been happy to add my name to this.

AllWoman, League Any Time, metimmee and all the other E-Goat users, thank you. Great idea putting your MPs reply on site. Ask your friends and family to email their MPs asking them to sign EDM 288. Also get them to sign the petition. We require to keep this issue on the front page of the EDMs most signed. So if you are reading this thread and you still haven't signed the petition or emailed your MP, then now is a good time to do so.

Thanks again to all those that have taken part in this very important issue.

The current legislation discriminates against service personnel and puts them at a distinct disadvantage when competing with civilians. An early day motion is currently being signed by MPs which if carried, will help change this legislation, but we need more of them to sign it if we are to get the government to take notice. We now need your support to get this through. Go to http://www.parliament.uk/directories/hciolists/alcm.cfm to find your MP and then Email your MP asking for support for this EDM. Come on ARRSERS, get of your arrse and give us some support!. :PDT_Xtremez_19:

If you wish, you could always take this simple letter and copy and paste it to your MP via the link. Don't forget to place their name and yours in the pasted letter.

The new list of MPs to email, the important thing is you have to come from their constituency to get them to act. If you get a reply from them then place it on site. If someone could PM me a list of RAF Camps and their constituencies, I will get all the MPs contact details and place them on site with their short cuts.

There are 124 MPs signed up to EDM 288 and 328 signatures on the Petition. We have to keep up the pressure, we require more MPs to signs the EDM, so please email your MP and get them to support our armed forces. The Petition is another avenue through which to show support for our Comrades.

This issue has never been addressed and brought so publicly to the political forefront before. If we wish to achieve our aim, we must continue to put pressure on those political masters.

I still require a list of RAF Camps. If you can help with this, then please email me the list.

I got a very nice letter from my MP which says:

"I have every sympathy with the views expressed in the EDM but I never sign Early Day Motions because they are never debated or voted upon. I prefer to write direct to Ministers so that I can get an authoritative statement of Government policy. If you would write me a letter making specific suggestions for improvement in the present arrangements, I would be very ready to send your letter to the responsible Minister and would forward the reply to you."

All very nice, but not very useful.

Bzn - David Cameron

Bzn - David Cameron

I filled in the email form and cut and pasted the question to our local MP, david cameron. What a complete waste of time it was.

I am based in a large base near witney (Humm i wonder what one that is!!!) and the Rt Hon David Cameron is our MP, now he is the leader of the oposition, and the MP for possibily the largest base in the RAF. He even came here a few weeks ago (I was voulenteered to go and meet him) to tell us that all the armed forces had his full support and he would do anything to help us BLAH BLAH, BLAH.

I recived a letter today in the post stating that he would "be unable to support the EDM as it has not been tabled in behalf of the party as a whole" What a conplete waste of time this bloke is what a complete ^%*(* he is. i get the impression that he does not care at all about service families and he is our local MP!!

I am going to e-mail him after i have had this rant to you lot to say "Well Mr Cameron heres a great idea, why don't you do what ever you have to do to get it tabled on behalf of the party as a whole you being the leader and all that"

If there are any families reading my rant here that live in the five star accomodation that we have to live in, please if you have not done it already e-mail Mr Cameron and tell him what you think!!!.

True Blue Jack, Write to your MP and ask him, what the DCLG and the MoD are doing to address the issue of discrimination against service personnel leaving the forces, and requiring social housing with no local connection.

fatcodycat, I will put his reply to my MP and see what it all means. If I was you, I would still email him back and ask him to explain himself better.

The petition has got over 450 signatures now and continues to get coverage on other sites. However we require more signatures on the petition and MPs to sign the EDM. The House of Commons is in recess at present moment, but will be back in a weeks time.

Thanks for all your support

Well done all who have got responces from their MP's please check the EDM and get your MP supporting this please. Keep it up on the petition, cracked the 600 so far.

The need for more people to sign the petition is great. Those that have neither signed the petition or emailed their M.P are asked to do so. We need to show a united front on this issue and support our serving soldiers and their families.

I received the following letter today from Service Personnel and Policy Service Conditions MoD. I have made contact with the the department and await their return call. In my request under the FOI, I asked for all correspodance the MoD have had with the DCLG on this issue. The letter, as polite as it is, is not the information I asked for. At least the acknowledge there's an issue to be addressed.

The areas spoken about in para 2, under the LSAP, soldiers that use this option are not permitted to rent out their property or sell it for a certain period. the social housing Nomination Scheme is over subscribed and the waiting list are very long, some Housing Associations have removed themselves from the scheme. The government funded schemes, such as the Key Worker initiative. Military personnel have to have at least 5 years left to run on their contract. The other point is, only a very small proportion of serving personnel are eligible for the scheme, ten thousand military personnel. There are more Civil Servants eligible for this scheme, fifty thousand.

I hope you will continue to support our Armed Forces in this issue. Please sign the petition and email your M.P to sign EDM288.

UPDATE;

I had a meeting with the Shadow Defence Minister, Mark Harper today. I explained the problems faced by service personnel when leaving the forces, and their housing needs. The Shadow Defence Ministers are putting together a forces welfare package as part of their manifesto. This will include service housing and their future housing needs on leaving the forces, as well as some other areas.

I also got to meet Baroness Thatcher, which was very nice.

I hope you will continue to ask friends and family to sign the Petition, and remember to Email your M.Ps asking them to sign EDM 288.

The EDM has had 9 new signature added which is great news, but we have to continue to email ministers, asking them to support EDM 288. The number currently stands at 133, we require at least 200 signatures to keep this alive.

E-Goat thank you for your support on this issue. I'm sure this area of the legislation will be addressed in the future. However until it is addressed lets keep up the pressure.
