Longest Serving (Oldest) Bar Steward

As I am no longer a serving member I don’t know if I qualify for this thread. However, as I am still working for the MoD (38 years continuous service this month) does that qualify me?

If so, my number was 8075, joined up 11 Mar 1969 man-entry Swinderby – not the easy apprentice route (I will wait for Hue’s reply on that one!).

Feelgood factor increasing here, I was 5 :PDT_Xtremez_31: Cheers Captain :PDT_Xtremez_14:

In answer to your question, you may have had 38 years continous service but with two very different companies. Incidentally my numbers start 8019.

Finally as Hu hasn't risen to the bait, I will. It never fails to amaze me how many people that were not apprentices think it was an easy route. As it consisted of in my case three Mech Cses and two Fitters Courses plus an ONC, it would only be deemed easy if the courses that you undertook were equally so!!

SB also feeling good :PDT_Xtremez_31: but sadly not to the same extent as I had reached the advanced age of 12 by 1969.
:PDT_Xtremez_30: All the same cheers Capt made me feel better :PDT_Xtremez_28:

You old fart, I was swimming in my Dad's sack back then :PDT_Xtremez_31:
I would put my number here, but civvy numbers (X123456) seem to be reallocated on a seemingly ad-hoc basis. All the guys on my course had different letters before the numbers and they all started with different numbers. But I started in 1980 if anyone wants to crow ! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Your 50th p*ss up must be imminent then? or are you being tight fisted and ducking the occasion. I know how much strain the rug-rats must have on your ex- fat techie wallet.

THREE Mech's Courses and TWO Fitters Courses, no wonder you are an apprentice.

If you had got it right first time you would have only needed to do one of each like I did!

Thanks a lot SB, still at least I am not the oldest in this parish of knowledge and TB, who says he was only 12 when I joined up, to look at him he must have really had a bloody tough paper round.

Ermmmmm..... 8018 - 1969. You can't really go by the numbers as there is at least 1 guy here whose 1st 4 is lower than mine but who joined at least 2 years after me.

Well my full number was S8007940, Craft Apprentice, Halton 1968, grand age of 15 and a half. I was a bit thick (some would say nothings changed) and had to join 6 months early to improve my basic education.

A mate of mine joined in 1963 and is still a serving Wobbly Orange.

Not sure of his service number - we all new each other in the mob, when we were serving together :-)

How the feck is that possible, as far as I was aware the oldest warrant in the RAF was serving in an IPT at a place in Bristol and he's 56, he got a 1 year pma extension for exceptional circumstances.

May 1980what a glorious year that was, Swinditz was in full bloom,2 sqns, 21 Flights, TG10 brain donors all over the place. Ah the memories. Pull up a sandbag and have a chat.

Well a big thank you for pointing the imminent arrival of my 50th. :PDT_Xtremez_34:

I've got an 815 no same as Edzar. Obviously denoting a superb engineer that the RAF doesn't deserve to have in its employ. (Oct 83)
I'm currently serving with a WO who starts Q4*****.

Now that confuses me, I'm 8219 and joined Oct 83 as well !!!!

Mentally not old but definately bald

He used to be my boss in Germany. The funny thing is he was only supposed to be in his current job for 18 months and he is now in his 8th year. Legend.
