PAYD Bringing ISS To Its Knees

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Sgts Mess has gone down to £1:25 a pint of Lager, outside in the bull and bowl its double that. Both are run by ISS!

However, the overheads of running the Sgts' Mess bar (and Offrs' Mess bar) are funded by the public through the CRL contract; however, the cost of running the other bars falls to the contractor. Just like any other business (and just like NAAFI of old) the contractor has to cover these costs by sales across the bar.

Does an element of the SNCO's monthly subs subsidise the bar?
In the messes that I was a member of the Mess Bill didn't subsidise the cost of drinks.

We used to buy direct from the wholesalers and not from the NAAFI.

Staffing, infrastructure and consumables then?
The Mess Bill monies were used for numerous things ...
Tea, Coffee and newspapers.
Subsidising the costs of the monthly dining in nights (staff etc)
Subsidising the costs of other functions (Burns Night & Summer Ball etc.).
Laundry facilities.
Subsidising the cost of entertainment at functions.
Covering the costs of SNCO v JNCO games nights.
Buying/maintaining mess property (Paintings, silverware, snooker table etc.).
CMC's 'twofers'.

The list could go on forever.

Feeder somewhere in Norfolk is getting worse. Prices have gone up yet all our constructive comments are met by 'limited budget'. Last night the core meals were sold out within half an hour so leaving only the more expensive option or omelette. I didn't mind so much as I like omelette but some of the guys had to go to tables asking if anyone had an extra 54p to get their food. Also why if you do pay more do you lose the items such as bread that come with a core meal??? Bread then costs 60p regardless of whether you have one slice or two. The feeder is becoming a farce and I for one will not be using this facility anymore.

Monobrow is correct if they run out of the core menu they are obliged to provide something else at the same price. If that is the chefs special then so be it. This was proven at a secret test facility in Wiltshire, all the core menu had been eaten by the juniors (shared kitchen)then pipe and slippers gang rock up. And no core menu left, how ever contract monitor lives in and quotes contract details and we all get the chefs special with soup and desert. It took a bit of talking and them getting their duty manager on the blower, I can assure it never happened again.

Heating, water, glasses etc. Just curious, not made the grade yet, just wondered what the money went on and whether it subsidised the bar. The above posts answer my query.

I think the SNCO's mess at Waddo paid for the guard forces' tea, coffee and milk as well. Not sure if stuff like this still happens under CRL though.

Good. Because the quote below probably needs some investigation from a lot of people judging by some earlier posts:

Sounds like people need to be contacting the contract monitoring people at units.

Correct.
There is also a parallel contribution from the Officers' Mess and a donation from SIF for the above.
Currently under review in light of Guardforce manning levels.

Heating and water by the public.

Can't quite recall about glasses; I seem to recall that they are paid from the Mess bar account (generally funded by bar profits). I'm not working in that area at the moment so can't confirm that that is accurate now. Hopefully someone with more currency in mess accounting will chip in.

We used to get free glasses from the brewery for the beer glasses and buy from the suppliers for the poncy glasses.

Enough about the what the SNCO mess memberships gets (or in the most cases doesn't) from mess subs - that can be a separate thread.

Back to what ISS actually provides on the plates?

It looks like it all revolved around singlies not wanting to pay for food at the weekend when they legged it for a weekends fun and games, but how many bothered to tell the mess that they were going away and wouldn't require feeding? The mess didn't know and so they cooked the meals. Maybe a better idea would've been someway of "clocking off" on a Friday where the info was passed to the mess not to provide the meals in the first place.

I'll argue that one, Cottesmore's mess was excellent with a theme night every month. Also Aldergrove's was excellent as well, along with Bruggen. Can't say I have been in a bad mess in 22 years.
