PAYD Bringing ISS To Its Knees

The advent of PAYD represents a huge quality of life improvement for our sailors, soldiers and airmen. It gives them previously undreamt of levels of choice and encourages individual responsibility.

I may not be alone in thinking that sentence from Lt Col Bill Sharpe is a load of old b0ll0cks. The food in the SNCOs mess at Brize is the worst I've encountered in my 22 years in the RAF

Wha! have you never been on a course at Halton? trust me Brize is head and shoulders above at least 3 stations I have experienced in the last 12 months.

When I was at a secret fide fighter base they spent a fortune putting in New hibs for us then wouldn't wire them up due to "fire regulations" q a load of us techies wiring them up ourselves so they final relented and put in a push button to cut power after 5 minutes, so you couldn't put a pan on and walk away you had to keep pushing the button. I got a big box of my George foreman grills back when I left as they were all nabbed by Joe swo on his rounds, and we weren't supposed to have them.

Aye, we've all gone out and bought plug in Hobs and George foremans. It hasn't stopped us in the slightest except now we have to hide all cooking stuff during the day at work and only get it out when cooking then put it away afterwards

we have 2 in our wing utility room Hu, the only problem is you need to buy special pans for it. I ended up shelling out £60 for Ready Steady Cook pans because they were the only ones argos did that were suitable for induction Hobs

I can see the armourers having issues with this!!

What happened to the built in ones in the blocks? I was in Pentland and Skye, the old blocks like lomond etc didn't have them I think

Funny, I was at Cardiff university looking round with my son. Halls there, which are identical to SLAM, allow 18 yr old students to have hobs. Fire regs my arrse, enquire exactly which fire regs they are applying.

They could never tell you where to find the regs written down, just usualy muttered something about 30 minute fire doors and some other arrse comments. When i was based there it all boiled down to it be a PAYD Trial unit. They were losing so much money they tried to force people into the mess, The more they forced the more we resisted, The PeD flight even tried to tell us about healthy eating stating everything the mess provides is healthy, anything you make yourself is bad, When i asked "does that mean my mate s***** ate in the mess at lunch and youre telling me his lunch was healthier than mine? (now i am a bit podgy) said gym queen smirked and replied " Yes, definately" To whick i replied. I had a salad and a pint of squash and my mate s***** had a pie and chips and a can of bru surely thats not the healthy option" he walked away gobsmacked and i got a bollocking from the chief gym queen, who was a walting kok scoffer

I assume the above is perfectly acceptable posting on here ??

I made a mistake acting with good intentions, researched the topic deeper due to the amount of people who said I was wrong, I found the info online, even posted a link that gave some good info, made a sincere apology and yet I have to put up with a personally insulting post like the one above.

You really are a p1ssy little moaning b1tch aren't you?

If you are the future of the RAF, then I'm glad I left. Both the service and the country.

Maybe in future, you will listen to your elders before going off on a bile filled rant fuelled by baseless opinions.

Is that acceptable enough for you?

I was in the No camp when the big question was asked and was quite aghast at the level of shortsightedness that delivered a Yes vote.

Amazing.....the old mess in there was brilliant then they ripped it all out, shut the bowl and squeezed it all in the old mess building, and that killed all atmosphere in the bars and mess. People used to be in the old mess for hours after work drinking brews and shooting to sh*t

your earlier question Timaloy, they have decided to redocorate the utility rooms gutting them and removing all cooking facilities, I think I said it earlier if not then thats why.

Also they were trying to relocate the bar into the rugby club shutting it down, I dont think this is going to be the case anymore though because the wiring is worse in there than it is in the Delta

This may have been said before on this thread, but for me personally it comes down to the service which ISS provides when it comes to PAYD. It doesnt matter to me where we came from in relation to Messing it matters where we are now. At the end of the day, ISS provide a service, which in my opinion is very poor. I get fed up of feeling like i dont matter as their customer. If they provided food at a reasonablee price (even if it was slightly higher than now) and didnt give out portion sizes that would leave my 6 year old son wanting more they would do a lot better. The biggest complaint i hear is that there isnt good enough provisions in barrack blocks to enable livers-in to cook their own decent meals. Maybe if the mob spent a bit of cash providing proper kitchens in blocks people might not have such a big problem with the JR mess vanashing. You here the excuse far too often that they cant due to health and safety blah blah blah. To me this is a load of Bull. Its fine for me to cook in my SFA which i rent but not for singlies in a block? Why?

Excuse me for barging in on this thread, but if enough of a protest was organised then someone would have to take notice, or has apathy taken hold? How about throwing the food at the staff if it's really that bad, or refusing to eat it?

Can't beat a good bun fight. I think an earlier poster had it right, Can't remember if it was Vim or FOMZ. Demand the comments book and get a mate to sign it as a witness and stitch them right up.

It wasn't ISS it was the last CO. This CO has a different tack altogether.

It started before the last CO as a direct result of the recommendations made by the Garrison Engineer in DCRE - nothing to do with ISS at all; but, let's not let the facts get on the way of a good e-goat conspiracy theory.

Mixed up

Mixed up

I think some people are mixing up the desire to pay for the food we ate with the move to private contract for food services.

We all said we would pay a little bit more for our food if we didn't have to pay for weekends.
The PAYD solution didn't need to pay for external management, new vans, bar refurbishments, donations to select charities to pay off the execs.
Didn't need to resort to bully tactics to monopolise the services.
We asked for more choice where we ate, now juniors have to share with contractors and local law enforcement after a cheap meal. Even SNCO's wives and kids on some camps, yet the sncos and officers get to keep a sort of normal service except for increased emphasis on costs and stricter requirements.

Why ANYONE thought adding a civvie company and a few layers of extra management could provide a BETTER service is obviously screwed in the head.

PAYD starts at Lossie today.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes. My money is on Tesco and Argos running out of microwaves before the end of the week.

I personally wouldn't have minded PAYD if it was a non-profit organisation who's only concern was the giving guys a good feed. Rather than fleecing airmen for money (captive audience).

I often compare PAYD messes to a civvy restaurant... I have never gone to a civvy restaurant and been given a chicken curry that contained only two bits of chicken and forced to eat it off a paper plate with plastic forks. So why should I accept this in the mess? The civvy restaurants dishwasher never breaks down.

As for cost? I'd rather pay the extra to get an acceptable meal.

Somebody mentioned "Italian chicken" is that the leg of anorexic budgie they serve? I think once I may have got a bit of meat off it, maybe.
