Welcome To Swinderby

Cheers, thanks for the memory!
My fly past was 3 Chipmunks chugging along and the band playing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer! Dec '87:PDT_Xtremez_17:

Top book- brought back some memories although can't remember having a booklet like that myself. (I was there dec82-Jan 83).

That photo of the wooden bench climbing frame thingy in the gym brought back memories though...I remember the first time we did it a lad froze on the top beam and we ended up with about 20 people behind him hanging on for dear life. Eventualy we all got down and then a PTI went up and made him do pressups, situps and then a forward roll on the top beam....cured his fear of heights.
Also remember the first 1.5 miler straight after breakfast in week one, followed by piggybacking someone up and down the earth mound- spewed my guts up.

One of our Rock Instructors was a Cpl Too#y and he was a complete cnut, the ladies liked him though, seem to remember certain rumours that he was a part time stripper.

I remember him too...

SLR training he said to someone, "You stand up and come here"

"What's your name?"

"Dave" said the bloke

Too#y says, "Wha!!!, I couldn't give a f**k what your first name is!!!"

It was then I knew that my childhood was well and truly over!:PDT_Xtremez_41:

I went to Swinderby in March 1970, remember going to the cinema & seeing the film 'Deadlier Than The Male'.
My main memory is thinking 'This is a whole lot different to the ATC!'.

We had a flypast by four Lightnings on the passing out parade I'll post the photos if I can find them.

Regards, Flight Idle

I remember Cpl Mes***. I also remember on one of our paractice parades you could hear "tic tic tic tic tic tic tic tic screeeeeeeeechhhhhhhh" as he ran up beside and then slid backwards on his segs screaming at someone who had messed up somewhat. Legend... pure legend

If He's who I remember, He was at Locking late '88 - 1990ish. Used to hide behind trees to give us bolloc*ings !... He did used to have a bit of a sense of humour when out in the Flowerdown Rugby Club

The Officer was reputed to have been involved in a secrets for sex scandal in Cyprus a year or so before,

That would have been 1985. Everyone allegedly involved were very junior ranks so pretty unlikely to be true, however he may well have been one of the accuseds OCs or worse still part of the investigating team that bodged the job up.

The book states it was printed in 6/88 so pictures probably taken 87 and used for a few years afterwards

Received book Oct 90
Got on the train Jan 91

Still happy'ish Mar 2008 on the way to 22

Interesting.... I passed out in Nov 86 and i would wager that the
passing out parade featured on the last page is mine. The chap
in the blue turban (this isn't a joke) looks familiar. He wasn't on
my flight but we had 3 Flt's and a flight of WRAF's on our parade.
I recognize that reviewing Rodney aswell. Will have to dig out the
video and investigate further.

I was on 2 Flt that passed out in Nov 86. I seem to remember a bloke with a turban, but he wasn't on our flight.

Just for the nostalgia I'm going to try and put some of my Pass Out Parade onto youtube and post that. it's got a 5 minute bit at the start that show's the family things like the Mile 1/2, MFT, Drill practice and other stuff giving them an insight into what their sons and daughtesr have gone through

wish me luck....

Nice one, that should be a giggle. Slightly off topic any ex Binbrook bods should
look on youtube. Someone has put a slide show on of the Officers Mess as it is
today. What a state. I was up their a couple of weeks ago hoping to relieve it
of its radiators (they sell for £450 a pop - reclaimed) but the pikeys have gutted
it and me I hasten to add.

Good luck with that. I've just been reminded of my time at Swinditz. Some muppet had to carry a white teddy bear around, the nasty Cpl made him do it.:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Only a few more pages folks, MFT at North Luffenham for me (it snowed)

********

Memories:

It also snowed on my MFT (North Luffs) Remember the WHITE 1250s!! Not a good idea asking people to put the 1250 on the snowy surface and then to stand back (as instructed to do by the staff) "errrr sorry I cannot see it" as the SNCO chases you down the road due to the none found 1250.

Nearly knocking yourself out when the siren goes off and jets go over and you dive out of the sangar (as instructed again!!) and bash your tin lid off the roof and slump out.

The rumours of the SAS out there acting as the "enemy" and you bricking yourself hahaha.

i coudnt see any pictures of people in grey/blue boiler suits with little bits of red towel round there necks i must be realy old (swin may 83)

I do remember said items & also wearing them.

Wasnt the towelling in fetching Red & Blue colours to denote which Sqn you were on?

Bloody Hell - this thread has brought back some memories. I passed out in Nov 86 and we had a Chinook Flypast - apparently it was quite impressive. I've still got my copy of the book somewhere as well as the video. Ah, the good old days, greens, blue shirts, neck towels, putties, a real rifle to play with and the soundtrack to Top Gun being played all the time. Does anybody remember the TV programme that was on quite a while ago about life at RAF Waddington? The SWO at the time was my Sgt DI at Swinderbutlins - dear old Sgt R....n - god bless 'im.
