Wednesday March the 13th 1991, to Wednesday May the 1st 1991.

DI's were Cpl********and Sgt *********.

I was on 16 flight which was one of three flights, each consisting of around 40 personnel. which were part of No3 Training Squadron. We wore green cravats and a green backplate behind the beret badge.

We were the last intake for 3 TSqn, and were the last airmen to pass out under the instruction of the Squadron.

This left, No 1 and No2 Training Squadrons who by 1993 had seen their recruit numbers drop to none existent levels and the eventual closure of Swinderby.

Here endeth the lesson.

Swinderby by the skin of my teeth. Was the last intake out of the gates with 6 Flt (May - Jul 93).

RAF Swinderby November 1th 1982 till Dec 16th(?) 1982 11 Flt under Sgt****and Cpl ******)....Anyone remember the ugly troll who used to do supposedly erotic dances in airmans naafi? Always ended with her flashing her large spotty arsse!!! Sure she used to do a double act with her skiffle playing hubby!! Even as a spotty 16 yr old, she was one of the most unerotic women I have ever seen!! And I've been to Gander LOL!!

RAF Swinderby 02 Jul 85 on 7 Flt No. 2 Sqn. allocated to B1 stream and accommodated in Barrack Block 4.
Intake number was 13MP85 (WAAFs were 4MP85)

Flight staff were Fg ******, Sgt G******and Cpl ********.

I've still got the slip off paper they handed to me on the first day with the useful telephone numbers, a space for my service number and the instruction to carry the slip of paper for the next 48 hours. I've even got the 'Welcome to Swinderby' pamphlet I received at the time.

Pass Out Parade was 14 Aug 85, Sqn Cdr was Sqn Ldr *******and Reviewing Officer was Group Captain ********of RAF Kinloss and fly pass was a Nimrod MR2 with musical support by the RAF Kinloss Voluntary Pipe Band.

Even sadder, I've still got the white and pale blue sports shirts and shorts I was issued.

Swinderby Nov 1978... But all I remember is breaking my ribs playing soccer and for our pass out parade I was detailed to ensure that some future FLM could hold his shoulders back properly - He simply couldn't... He was probably 80lbs soaking wet. We ended up cutting the hook off a wooden coathanger and having it under his No.1 Jacket to make it look like he could stand up straight... It actually worked too...<LOL>

As to my 'spritual home"... I dunno... I'm not all that spiritual... I suppose it would be Catterick but if you asked where I had the best time it would be Shawbury... That was a ball... Shrewsbury was a good town and there were more nurses than you could shake a stick at... Happy days... :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Swinderby for me to, no.7 Flt Feb 1990 Sgt *********who used to bring us all to attention by shouting no.7 sh1te!!

Swinderby Jan 77

Some of the best remembered times were pre my fitters course when I was a SAC at Coningsby 77 - 80. No responsibilities or commitments a car and a fcuking good bunch of mates, what more could you ask for.

I would love to read the RAFP incident book covering that period.

Spiritual RAF home

Listen to grandad! RAF Bridgenorth 1951. But prior to that I was Royal Artillery training at Kinmel Park in North Wales in 1948. RAF service was at RAF Binbrook. I am now 77 years young and still have my own gnashers!!

Canberra man

Swinderbuts, Apr 91 MFT twice just cos i loved the running about in boots (not bloody NBC never did get the hang of blot bang rub) passed out with the dead sparrows doing a fly by, flt T shirt was Roger melly the man with the Beret. (still got it)

As for spiritual home ISK, was up there 2 weeks ago for a couple of days in Elgin via Forres and it was like i had never left.

Swinderbubble 15th Nov 88 to Jan 89.

I see Newton as my spiritual home though. I was down in that part of Englandshire a few years ago and dropped in to see the place. Shame to see it all overgrown.

Seems the majority of the goaters are Swinderby men (and women)! What happened to the base - why was it closed?
