Corona virus

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
What a pathetic species we've become.
Yeah aren't we just. When the majority of the nation follow the guidelines, rules laws, call them what you want and see our mental health going down the pan and not being able to see our loved ones, someone close to the prime minister can flout these guidelines with not even a hint of apology. Then you defend him along with the majority of the cabinet.

You know something, I don't care. I couldn't give a f**king shit who visits whom. They're adults, they can do exactly what they f**king want. This constant stream of, "Ooh, someone broke the lockdown rules" is pathetic. This country has become a nation of wankers. Tattletales, Stasi informants, snitches, curtain twitching shites. I went on a 20 mile drive this morning, car hadn't been out for while so I thought why not. F**king sue me!

I JUST DON'T CARE!

I broadly agree. This lockdown has highlighted the fact that many people in this country are happy to be spoon fed guidance for seemingly every aspect of life. Whatever happened to common sense and personal responsibility?

Don't get me started on trial by media.

So if a member of this forum can post in the Corona virus topic about a senior government advisor resigning for flouting government guidelines. That's not deemed political, but when I post about another government advisor flouting the guidelines then it's deemed political. That's double standards.

PS . Name calling is a a tad unprofessional from a moderator/ staff member.

PPS I dare say this will get deleted.

Don’t know what they sell in B&Q but an elderly couple went straight to the front of the long queue and went in early, the guy was using two walking sticks and was very unsteady, back outside the fella was walking quite freely and without sticks once he’d put his trolley back.

Almost - The Taps is in Lytham which is just round the corner....great pub!
Lots of good pubs in that area but the Taps I thought was excellent.

Walked 6.5 miles of the Cornish Coastal path around St Anthony’s Head. That stretch has lots of very secluded beaches, some only accessible by boat. Many had large mixed groups on them and numbers of boats pulled up the beach. One had a 10-a-side beach footy game going on. A good ‘tell’ round these parts is roof boxes. Few locals need or use them day to day but tourists do. Saw at least half a dozen parked outside local small shops.

I forecast about 4-5 weeks ago on a thread that we’d get shabby around the 8 week point and many are. We have really low infection rates down here (only 573 confirmed cases for a population of 570,000) and many are reacting to that stat in a way that could be detrimental.

So the lock down regs are changing and now people can meet, from Monday, in groups of up to 6 if they maintain correct social distancing in parks and gardens. How some of the folks round here are going to manage to reduce their gatherings down to only 6 will be difficult. Tuesday in the house across the green where mum dad and 3 kids live there was a visit from another family of mum dad + 3 kids and an older couple probably grandparents. BBQ, bouncy castle, music, booze, all in the same garden for around 5 hours. What lockdown?

The only lockdown some people will abide by is the one that comes when the man from the Co-Op is screwing the lid down on them....

Co-Op? Good God man! I’m having mine done by Waitrose. I’ll be buried along with oodles of quinoa and caviar.

Testing in the Weston Super Mare hospital of NHS staff has shown that 40% of those with positive results don’t show symptoms, not sure how this will help the track and trace.

I am seeing stories in various publications that up to 7 out of 10 people are not showing symptoms; this could suggest that the virus is far more widespread than thought. If that’s the case then the ‘R’ rate could be reduced dramatically.

And that's the thing; until a reliable antibody test is being used on the whole population (and the science of whether a positive antibody test is a reliable predictor of susceptibility to future infection and severity) nobody really knows what the R rate and the risk to the population really is.

To be honest, testping, tracing and sorting out a vaccine are much less important than finding a cure or at least an effective treatment.

Strange isn’t it? A few days ago the police in London were mass arresting anti-lockdown protesters in Hyde Park. Today we have hundreds (thousand?) of protestors in London and at the gates of No 10 screaming, “**** the police”. So on protest is illegal the other isn’t?

I heard today through my 'sources' that the PHE opinion on Asymptomatic carriers is changing rapidly and that they are causing the infection stats to remain high/tailing off more slowly than we'd like them to.

The key to this is rapid testing and more research into immunity. I'd like to take a town in lets say the Midlands of around 25k population and test everyone aside from those shielding (risk to high and they should be disease free if doing it right) for both having it and anti-bodies. That would give a snapshot of who has it and didn't know (asymptomatic) and also those who have had it and are now producing anti-bodies. That would give us a picture of one town who has the same approximate mixture of people who have abided, people who have not, people who have returned to work and so on.

Then it would be interesting to interview as many of the anti-body carriers as possible with questions around 'Did you ever actually feel ill?', 'Have you presented with any Covid symptoms since (had it twice) ?' and so on.

The answer to a deal of this is immunity eventually reinforced with a vaccine...we can't social distance forever.

I admire the bravery of the Swedish government that they stuck to their plans and I respect the population for mostly following the advice.

Listening to that nice Mr Hancock giving his briefing today, couldn’t help but notice he snuck in some fuckery at the end. Apparently the government have now extended the period at which they’ll review the lockdown from 3 weeks to 4. No reason, just the ‘f**k you’, live with it. So, locked down until the end of June then. Cnuts.

Change fatigues people...look at the issues (contrived and genuine) caused by the change from one slogan to another. I have noticed on social media that some people couldn't cope with the pressure and stress of breaking the yoke on an egg they were frying so when a new set of rules come out they frantically pronounce to all that stomach reading there posts that we are all going to die in a second wave and that they will be bricking their doors up until next year.

So having a 4 week stint on one set might calm those types down...with the disclaimer that if the figures go excessively either way the rules will change out of necessity or reward.
