I'm sure I'm not alone - and I'll get little sympathy on here - but I turn 40 in a few weeks time and the only, singluar, solitary consolation prize I could expect was that my fitness test would get a bit easier.

WRONG:PDT_Xtremez_25:

WRONG:PDT_Xtremez_25:

Well I turn 40 in just over 18 weeks....my consolation prize is a Lump sum in the bank and pension paid in every month till i die.........fitness tests again...me thinks not..

Crack on............:PDT_Xtremez_09:

The Harrier force have decided to break us in gently and the new levels come in from 1 October this year for all JFH. Remedial is 3 times a week at 0630 and has already started. a 54 year old bloke does 7.01 and a 17 year old female having to do 6.07 for a "green" pass. equal ops my ar*e.

So 0630 start - minus travelling/ablutions time = 0500-0530 wakeup. 10 hours "on duty" till 1630 plus travelling time home. Routinely planning to work all those hours (min 48 hr week) not good for morale. Add extra time for bad weather and you'll be looking at some interesting "incidents" travelling. Duty of care anyone?

What's the cutoff time for your nightshift and what time do they do PT?

Its just one of the many initiatives to drive the personnel out of the RAF so they can hand all the kit over to the Army as a going concern. Come on, open your eyes to whats really happening here fellas.

All the changes. LEAN, fitness tests (not only raised by 1- 1.5 levels but you now have to do it twice a year), manpower reductions, Options for change, front line first, mass civilianisation, more and more ops, and 3 loads of redundancies only drive the manpower out the door.

All this change within 15 years and now we have nearly a quarter of the manpower we had when I first joined but several more Ops.

The Army bum boys want us disbanded according to that paddy EX Army zob, let the bellend have it. Their boys can't even get the feckin Apache in the air without a shed load of input from us RAF guys.

I have no objection to having fitness tests twice a year, in fact I'm all for it but lets introduce 2-4 hours a week in EVERY work place so that we all keep fit.

The Army get it all in work time so why the **** dont we?

You'll get it done, after all, you can now ask for another 3 years more!!

Do you think there will be many takers? Erm....in short, no.

Ive been so bored as GC I was looking through the Heath and Fitness Strategy and realised that the new test doesn't come into effect until April 2008. On October the 1st was the start of bi-annular testing and the opportunity to prepare themselves for the new standards as an aspiration. So basically if you get to your old test standards they shouldn't be failing you if I have read it correctly.

Also, why is it that a 50-54 year old male has got to achieve 7.01 - 8.07 whilst a 16 year old female has got to achieve 6.07 - 7.09?

Surely a female at nearly a third of the age of a man should be doing equal if not a damn site more. I really can't get my head around this at all.

In the Fire and Policeservice both male and females have to reach a level (Correct me if I'm wrong) of 8.4 (Fire) and 5.4 (Police)

The police apparently used to run at 8.1 but reduced this down to 5/4 so that the pass rejection rate wasn't the current 89%.

What I don't get is that I have worked with female aircraft technicians in Basrah, Khandaha and other dodgy places in the last 22 years. Now, what happens when I'm working in these sandy places and we have to fight? What happens when the lass who is 16 but only just passes her fitness test when the excrement hits the fan? I'm peeling back and laying down fire and she's hanging out her arrse and passing out. I'm certainly not hanging around to find out what being bummed to death is all about and to be honest, she can kneel there and take it like a man as I'm not hanging around to find out.

So when said and done, females should pass the same levels as us blokes, no ifs, buts or reasons otherwise. They should be able to 'keep up' with their male counterparts so that when it does go all pear shaped you both have the ability push at the same level, not drag behind.

Lets face it, the legendary stereotypical fat WAAF is still with us, and you wonder why!!!!

Wobbly steps of soapbox and awaits female incoming.:PDT_Xtremez_32:

Whilst I know I'm only quoting selectively from Wobbly, I agree with his sentiment; neither the introduction of twice yearly fitness testing nor the raising of the standards has any real issue for me, BUT, not being given the time to do sufficient Phys to be able to get to those new standards is, IMHO, simply wrong and unfair.

Fine, we are now expected to be fitter, but give us a fighting chance!

I'm lucky that in my current post, the boss is on-side and there is enough time available; BUT, many of my mates are not as fortunate, as I myself may not be, once posted.

If you're on days now, you've got a waaf there who is about to get admin discharged for not doing hers. Happy days.

My Missus happens to be a WRAF of the old style, nearly 19 years done herself and is down the gym 4-5 days a week. This is only as she admits cos her place of work outside an RAF base allows her to do so.
So Wobbly, you are correct in saying we need the time to do fitness stuff, but don't tarr all those lasses out there with that thick brush...there are some quite fit birds out there all too willing to beat you on a mile and a 1/2 !!!
There are the stereotypical fat bird out there but equally as the "nintendo" nation blesses our camps, there are bloaty lads around too.

High horses...lots of em ::P: around

Can't see how any girl can kick off at that, even the ones who do try to match the standards of the men, there will be a lot of girls who will only aim for the minimum pass.

It's the same across the board, the PC brigade push for equal rights, push to have men and women working the same and expect to be treated the same, so why should women have a lower target.

Well same pay, same work load, same assesment board = same fitness levels ,

agree totally with Wobbly

If the worst comes to the worst then any person male or female should fit to the same level

I think that goes the same for the guys too LQ and always will do unless they change the fitness standards to a 'best effort' rather than a 'do the required and then stop'. That way a bit of personal pride comes into the equation to try and match , if not better your prvious effort. That obviously doesn't matter for those fat knackers who have no personal pride.:PDT_Xtremez_25: :PDT_Xtremez_42: :raf:

Your correct fella. I know I should have stated that there are plenty of fit and healthy ladies amongst us and a few that would run me legs off. However, although you say there are a lot of lardy lads you have to agree that these lads will now have to seriously consider their fitness if they wish to stay in the RAF. On the flip side the ladies fitness requirements haven't drastically changed meaning that they don't have to put the same effort in and need to be less fit to pass.

Therefore we will soon see the ratio of fat unhealthy blokes to fat unhealthy ladies reduce to the point where the ladies will become the larger of the species :)

I have to agree with both LQ and RR, and to a point wobbly. Technically we should be able to keep to the same levels as the guys as out in theatre its not exactly a time you want to be worried about whether someone is going to be left behind or what happens if someone does.

I'll freely admit my fitness test nearly killed me, although there was another reason that didn't help, I am reasonably unfit but as RR knows I am trying my hardest to get to the point I need to be and if I can surpass that then all the better, I mean a dog is going to be able to out run me no matter what but if I eventually get there and can't do anything because I'm too knackered what on earth is the frigging point?

I want to be at a good level before I start training because I know its going to make a difference, it'll also make me feel a lot better about myself and how I'm going to cope with things. If you only do the bare minimum then whats the point? You're only cheating yourself and those around you.

Whilst I couldn't quote verbatim, a muscle mech once told me that....

"Females have to do less because, as a rule, they do not have the same aerobic capacity as males"
