Olympics Faff!!!!!!!!

  • Thread starter Thread starter bluetonic
  • Start date Start date
From feedback I have received, guys deployed are already getting tired and, without adequate facilities, are starting to look shabby. This whole farce has car crash written all over it. I fear our reputation is going to suffer due to being linked with the Olympics. Perhaps G4S should refund the money received so far, and our guys should receive a bonus for yet again saving the necks of our incompetent government. On the bright side, at least that grinning fool Seb Coe will get a knighthood!

This whole saga really needs to be picked up by the press.

That's the sad thing, the press have been all over every aspect of how badly the forces have been reamed by this government in particular for a few years now. And at the end of every article you will notice a statement by either the MoD or an MP with some excuse or denial. And that's the upshot, until the next election looms they will keep shafting with impunity....watch them back peddle when it's time to vote though....I almost can't wait to see the tissue of lies.

There really isn't a strong enough statement to adequately sum up my own contempt for Politicians at the moment, though I do rather like 'total waste of good sperm and eggs'.

Every civilian is getting paid extra for working the olympics like Train staff, Bus Drivers etc

Tell that to a large number of staff at the nearest hospital, who unlike tube/bus drivers etc ARE actually working more to accomodate this shambles. OK they are getting OT, but no up front payments.

Im not affected by this but im raging for the guys (thousands of them) living in tents in a muddy quagmire. We should not expect our armed forces to live an operate in conditions worse than that on deployed ops. This government has messed up Royally and i hope they remember this when it comes to next years pay rise

G4S were supposed to be recruiting about 160 staff at the Ricoh arena today, apparently only 6 people turned up.
Let the rolling goat that is Britains attempt to host a major world event commence.............

So?. the Home Secretary has the key to all Brtitain's young offernders institutes - give those strapping young lads who are "turning a cornerin their lives" a go at bag and body searching.

Yeah, I know it'll be a disaster, but it's going to be one big monkeyw@nk anyway, and at least it will be funny as hell to watch.

A good friend of mine's a civil engineer. Been doing 20 hr days on the M4 since the 'minor crack' was found in the flyover. Reckons it's a crevice not a crack - could be stuffed for months !! #Fiasco....

Lord Coe, fair one, should have thought before typing. Novel idea, why not strip him of his titles for overseeing the Olympic c**k up we now see. As for the politicians, roll on the general election.

I'm now an engineer on the underground and unlike the drivers etc we're getting the square root of f*ck all for working the Olympics, which is fair enough as far as I'm concerned because we'll have loads of overtime... except they've now changed overtime so we only get paid at our normal rates. The reason - because like the poor sods in the mob getting shafted for this we have no union.
Still, at least I can go home to my bed when I'm off shift, unlike the poor b*stards who'll be having to kip in disused factories. Some times I look back on my time in the RAF fondly, then something like this happens and I thank god I left when I did.

Sounds like a great gig to me, 12 hour shifts on a six day cycle with one day off living it up in a disused warehouse what more would you want. Mind you the spartan conditions may come as a great shock to some with the benefit of pushing up the PVR rate. Win Win to the bean counters.

Ooh, I can't wait for G4S to start running the rest of our public services, they seem like such a wonderfully professional organisation. Still, that's the future, isn't it.

Was listening to a report on BFBS radio last night and a 'Colonel' was being interviewed and he was possibly the most infuriating individuals I have ever heard, he pointed out that the extra troops would be in tents or in community center halls, schools halls etc and they would be very happy with this luxury accomodation becuase it is far better than what they get in Afghanistan. Well apart from the most austere FOB's and PB's accomodation in Afghan isnt too bad and at least whilst you are there you are earning leave not getting it taken off you. Whats the betting that despite all the 'reassurances' from the govt and top brass, Pte Smith will never get chance to retake his leave as his unit was on block leave prior to the next exercise/training/deployment and come end of March their CO declines all request to carry extra days over!

Oh and while we are at it what happens if Syria kicks off in a couple of weeks, do we take all our troops back!!!

Just a farce on a biblical scale but then again we have all come to expect it from our lords and masters!

So far, Coe has successfully overseen a massive project. The c0ck up is surrounding the security aspect which isn't down to him. As for the general election, who would you vote for, the current banana skin steppers or the shambolic Liabour crowd?

G4S's alleged actions just after, with phonecalls to the Home Office complaining about this speak volumes... Try to keep it quiet as long as possible....

This lack of foresight is a common trend that I experience regularly.

Tasks sitting in an in-tray for several days (even weeks sometimes) and as soon it reveals itself at the very last minute, it's my or my fellow SNCOs job to bear the frustration and, understandably, sometimes anger from the coalface.

My thoughts are with those who have to break the news to their lads/lasses because of this farce.

None of them - as far as I am concerned, after 13 years of Blair and Brown's cock-ups, only to be followed by the ConDem alliance which seems incapable of getting anything right, my support for any of the major politcal parties has evapourated. Come the next election I will vote for one of the smaller parties because, lets face it, the chances of them being any worse than the current crop of politicos is slim.

Why all the bitching? It is an Op, and one organised at the last minute - isn't that what we do? Questions should be asked about the decisions made higher up but lets face it, one of the military's responsibilities is military assistance to the civil authorities is it not? I'd be well up for a few weeks in London courtesy of her maj were I not off to some other hole in the very near future...

Ordinarily, Mr Rimmer Sir, I would agree - it is what the Armed Forces normally do. But can you honestly say that this won't affect morale at your unit? Are you not overstretched? Do you not feel that by making thousands of Service men and women redundant but still demonstrating a need for their continued use outside of normal operats the Govt is displaying hypocrisy on a scale never seen before?
